Motherease

Motherease Aiflow is a popper-fastening laminated PUL wrap.  Motherease Airflow wrap fastens at the legs and waist with a choice of popper settings. The Motherease Airflow comes in three main sizings.  Note that the small size poppers towards the front, whereas the larger sizes popper towards the back. Motherease also make a Velcro fastening wrap called the Rikki.

We stock these wraps in white and the Eco Theme (TM) prints.

There are five Eco Theme prints, as shown in our picture, from left to right they are; Savanna, The Wetlands, Rainforest, Asia, Ocean. If you want to read more about them full descriptions can be found here. I particularly love the description of the Wetlands print.

What’s so special about the Air Flow? Well, it is a popper-fastening wrap in 3 main sizes. The poppers are at legs and waist on each side, and there are a number of different settings. Because of the separate leg and waist fastening, it has excellent adjustability for the child whose legs and waist are not in perfect proportion to each other. With a Velcro wrap, if your child has thin legs but a fat waist, the wrap may have to be closed too tightly at the waist to give sufficient containment at the legs, or vice versa. This is not the case with the Air Flow wrap.

The way it does up at the sides gives a ventilated section, which makes it the most breathable PUL wrap on the market by far. You think it somehow “ought” to leak, but I can assure you it doesn’t. Very cunning design.

It is a very baggy wrap, in comparison with Velcro-fastening wraps, and some people don’t like the “puffball” look. However, that’s one of the reasons why it is so reliable, because there is plenty of room between nappy and wrap, minimising the risk of wicking due to a bit of the nappy sticking out anywhere. That’s also one reason why it is an excellent wrap over the bulkiest of night nappies and over traditional terries.

Because there is no gusset at the legs, the Air Flow is not suitable over prefolds or other fasten-free nappies .... normally. I have known people use it with pad folded prefolds successfully, but only on pretty solidly-built children, because they fill the wrap so much more! It certainly won’t work with your average or skinny child.

One other advantage of the Air Flow is that the side-positioning of the poppers makes it virtually childproof! The trouble with Velcro-fastenings, as with disposable nappies, is that your child can easily undo them - and the tougher the Velcro, the more tempting it is for them. You can almost hear them saying “Look, Mummy, a toy on my tummy...” Not all children are manic un-fasteners, but if you have one of those, you’ll find popper wraps a far less frustrating option, unless you want your child to wear dungarees on a permanent basis!

Finally, being popper-fastening, it is highly suitable for anyone with sensitive skin, and will not snag or catch in the wash. Washable at 60 with the nappies, you can also tumble dry it on cool, although to be honest give it a good shake and hang it over a chair, and it will be dry within a few minutes anyway.

The Air Flow wraps I have used on my children have now been in use for 7 years, and they look and perform as well today as they did when new. In fact, I sometimes take one to antenatal talks and ask the group to guess which is the wrap which has been in use for seven years. They hardly ever get it right.

Note that there is a new size called Medium/Large (20-27lbs), which covers the lower end of the Large Air Flow size range (20-35lbs). This is because the Large feels very baggy when a slim child has outgrown a Medium and the Medium/Large is intended for those who like a trimmer fit. Obviously it adds an extra size of wraps in, which pushes the price up, but that might not be so important for you.

One time when the M/L wrap is a very good choice is when a child of around 15lbs switches to cloth. Instead of getting 4 medium wraps which will be quite quickly outgrown, you could opt for 2 Medium, 2 M/L and 2 Large, to bridge the gap nicely.

So reliable on both waterproofing and containment, flexible on fit, childproof, washable at 60 and can be tumble dried .... what do you mean, this wrap is not for you?!!...

Great wraps

We used (and loved) the Motherease Rikki wraps before but I much prefer these. The popper fastenings make them so much more secure and stops them getting stuck to other items in the wash. The prints are lovely too!

Effective wraps

These wraps work well, we appreciate the adjustability of them having a baby whose legs are chunky but tummy slim, as it means we can fit it to him perfectly, even at night when his bum is hilariously enormous from all the boosters! No issues with leaks, they even contain smells so efficiently that sometimes when I change his nappy there's a present waiting there that I had no idea about beforehand!

Motherease airflow wrap - so far so good!
Tuesday, 15 April 2014  |

We have very recently moved to using cloth at night as our 7 month old was out-peeing every disposable under the sun. We are using the wrap over either a totsbots bamboozle stretch or a little lambs bamboo nappy, both of which are boosted between the nappy and the wrap. This wrap seems to work well and the only leak we have had so far was due to operator error! We prefer it greatly to some other brands which we have on loan at present. This seems to fit well around the legs and tum, and (providing you don't accidentally do it up too tight!) doesn't leave red marks on little legs.

We have the M/L size and our baby is at the bottom of this size range, however there isn't a lot of growing room left in the rise of this wrap. This is probably because our son is particularly long and also because we underestimated how bulky his little night time bottom would be after all the necessary boosting! Just something to consider of you are thinking of purchasing and are in a similar super peeing situation! Or just have a very tall baby.

The quality of the wrap is very good and doesn't have that horrid sticky PUL that some other wraps have, making it much easier to put on. The poppers are easy to use and allow for a good fit with plenty of adjustability.

Will happily buy this wrap again in the next size when required.

Should also add that the service from the Nappy Lady was great, with prompt delivery and regular updates by email. Thank you!

Bombproof but slightly odd fit
Thursday, 10 April 2014  |

My 6 month old is pretty long and large, tipping the scales at just over 9kg/20lb, and with both the M, which he started wearing at 3 months, and the L, which he started wearing a couple of weeks ago, he's gone straight to the largest size poppers round the waist - which was a bit of a surprise with the L as I was hoping it would last him for a long time. Now I'm worried they won't, which is annoying, because as the elastic is really thin around the waist he already has a little red line around his middle in the morning. The leg holes he has on the second popper (of three). Having said that, these wraps are brilliant overnight in combination with a Bamboozle Stretch - don't think we've ever had a leak from them - and they're obviously hardwearing. So, a star off for sizing but I'd give the Airflow 5/5 for bombproofity!

Motherease nappy flow
Thursday, 27 March 2014  |

I use terry nappies for my son Jake and was struggling to find covers and was really worried that I would have to stop using them. These covers were brilliant they don't leak and there are some really nice patterns for under his summer rompers.

I have tried other wraps for night time use but this is definetly the winner. No leaks with a heavy wetter, and great fit. Highly recommended.

Great Wrap

I like these Motherease wraps better than the Totsbots, because they have waist and thigh button adjusters, rather than just the waist. That means no leaks!
