Orkney’s Real Nappy Scheme is a partnership between Orkney Islands Council, the Balfour Hospital Maternity Unit and Home-Start Orkney which aims to convert the Maternity Unit to using real nappies and to increase the visibility and awareness of real nappies throughout Orkney.
To achieve and support this, the Scheme is offering incentive packs of real nappies to all new and expectant parents on the islands or a cash back alternative to parents already using real nappies. More information on how to register for these incentives can be found on www.orkney.gov.uk.
The Scheme also has two nappy library kits showing the main types of real nappies available, which are a useful resource to increase awareness about real nappies.
It is hoped that a voluntary nappy network will be set up to continue the work of the Scheme beyond 2007.
