Bumgenius 4.0 is the brand new replacement to the much loved version 3.0. Bumgenius Version 4.0 is a birth to potty pocket nappy that now covers a larger weight range, has stronger Velcro, replaceable elastic and Bumgenius 4.0 is now also available in popper fastening.
Bumgenius is the first nappy to feature stretch to fit tabs to ensure a snug but comfortable fit. These tabs can cross over for small babies to give you a really good fit. There are three poppers on the front of the nappy to adjust the rise as your baby grows. These hold the reduced rise exceptionally well even when baby is on the move. For newborns, fold down the insert stopper for an extra-small rise and to keep the nappy away from the umbilical cord.
There are laundry tabs on the inside so you can fold back the fastening tabs to prevent the Bumgenius nappies sticking together in the wash. This makes sorting your nappy washing much quicker. If you always remember to fold the tabs back they will last a very long time.
The Bumgenius nappies comes with the highly absorbent Cotton Babies Microfibre Insert for the medium and large setting plus a newborn insert for the small setting. The newborn insert makes a very neat nappy, which doesn`t swamp a small baby. For a heavy wetter you use the large and newborn inserts together to ensure maximum absorbency. If further absorbency is required over night we recommend our hemp stuffers.
The hidden insert opening keeps the absorbent pads secure inside the pocket and helps to keep baby dry. The pocket opening is a wide slot, which makes it easy even for large hands to stuff or remove the insert. The inner fleece liner is gorgeously soft and helps keep baby`s bottom dry by drawing dampness away from the skin.
Before putting the soiled nappy into the bucket remember to remove the insert from inside the nappy. This ensures when they are washed they get thoroughly cleaned and the water is spun out of them. Due to the removable inserts the Bumgenius is very quick drying and remains soft to the touch even when air-dried.
Many parents stuff their pocket nappies once the inserts are dry from the wash so that the nappies are ready to go just like a disposable. The Bumgenius is ideal for a nursery or childminder as it`s so simple and quick to use. Although the fleece lining means you don`t have to use any additional liners, your child care provider may prefer to use disposable paper liners inside the nappy for quick removal of solids and doing so will have no adverse effect on the performance of the nappy.
While the Bumgenius is an excellent nappy system, pocket nappies are not as reliable and leakproof as a two part system (nappy and separate wrap). This is because there is only one layer to keep everything in. Leaks are most likely to occur with a newborn, until they put on some weight and their legs get chubbier. If using the Bumgenius under 10lbs you may find it more reliable used as a wrap over folded muslins. Click here for details on the Jo fold to use with muslins. The Bumgenius can be used at night time with substantial boosting. However we recommend you use a two part nappy system for excellent night time reliability. You will only need 3-4 night time nappies and ideally 2 wraps. Excellent night time nappies are the Bumble, with Totsbots or Motherease wraps.
Please be aware the Bumgenius has been considered an average length birth to potty nappy and tall/chubby children may outgrow it before potty training. If your toddler potty trains later you may also need to buy larger nappies. The new version 4.0 is meant to fit larger babies but until i`ve tested this myself i would be cautious if baby is tall. If you are expecting baby to be tall we recommend you consider the Bumble or Teddy as these are longer than average nappies.
The Bumgenius birth to potty nappy system is very economical, however it is unlikely to last for more thanb one baby. It will all be in constant use over 2 1/2 years + and the whole thing has to be washed each time. If you are planning more children it will be more economical to buy a two part nappy system.
