Little Lamb

Little Lamb washable breast pads in my opinion are THE BEST washable breast pads I’ve ever used and I’ve tried many brands over the years of breastfeeding my three children.

So why are they go good.....?

  • They are extremely slim making them discrete in your bra and under clothing. You’ll have no more telltale round outlines under clothes even with fitted tops.
  • They are lined with a breathable PUL coating to ensure you don’t get any leaks. Many of the washable breast pads I tried didn’t have a waterproof layer at all. Once these other pads were saturated the milk would begin to seep through to your bra and clothes.
  • They are made of incredibly soft and super absorbent bamboo which holds more liquid than traditional cotton pads.
  • Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal reducing the risks of yeast infections.
  • The diameter of the pads is 11cm or 13cm so they will not slip about or peek out of your top. 11cm are the average size however for more well endowed ladies (lucky you) 13cm offer better coverage and higher absorbency.

Simply pop these into your bra and position centrally over your nipple. They are highly absorbent and even with my strong milk let down I never needed to change them due to them being saturated. In the first few months of breastfeeding I did change them during the day purely for hygiene but over time as my milk flow began to settle down they were perfect for all day use. I also used these for managing night time leaking too.

I wash them with my normal household washing at either 30 or 40deg and dry them on an airer over night. You may find putting them into a small mesh laundry bag helps prevent them getting separated or lost in with other washing.

The breast pads come in packs of 5 pairs and are tied together with a ribbon to reduce packaging. You will need between 5-10 pairs depending on your milk let down and your washing frequency.

Only ones worth bothering with

These work very well, they wash very well, very absorbant and generally pleasant to use.
Have tried both sizes and like both, the black ones tend to still be fluffy hence four stars, that seems to be the only downside.

Excellent product

These breast pads are great. They are so soft and comfortable and they are super absorbent. With my first baby I used cotton pads and at times was wearing 3 at once-and my clothes still ended up with wet patches. I haven't had a single leak with these (apart from the odd occasion at night when they have slipped out of place).
The only downside is all the fluff that comes off them sticking to me meaning that baby ends up with bits of fluff in her mouth. This is still happening even after loads of washes. Generally great though

I have found these pads much more comfortable than disposable. Originally bought by a friend as a gift and I came back because I wanted to have more! Do needed changing slightly more often than disposables to prevent leaking!

Washable Breast Pads
Tuesday, 8 July 2014  |

These are a little bigger than the shops own brand disposable breast pads I also tried, which I felt covered me better, and they have good absorbency. Unfortunately due to my baby not latching on properly at first I suffered from cracked nipples, and found a lot of the fibres in these stuck to the wounds which meant I had to 'peel' the pads off at times which was quite painful. After healing however, I had no problems using these.

Great purchase

These breast pads are great - fit nicely and discretely inside my bra, and wash well. My only gripe is that I saturate them over night, but that's probably more to do with my supply!

Not waterproof and fluff gets everywhere
Saturday, 28 June 2014  |

I've not been too impressed by these compared to some other reusable pads I've tried - as they don't have a waterproof backing any heavy leaks will eventually show through clothes and the black ones particularly leave a lot of fluff on the nipple even after a couple of washes. Good value and they're nice and soft but there are better pads available.

Response:

They don't have a waterproof backing the pul waterproof layer is in the middle of the pads. If you're lucky enough to have lots of milk you must change regularly otherwise they will leak. Once they are saturated they will leak as the milk has to be absorbed somewhere, so change frequently in the early days to prevent leaks.

surprisingly good

Was recommended washable breast pads by other breastfeeding mums, mostly they are great: highly absorbant; soft and comfy; discreet. My only issues are that even after 2 or 3 washes the black pads are still leaving bits of fluff on my baby' s face; and if they get crumpled in your bra ie when feeding, they can be a faff to straighten, especially if you're in public!! Otherwise they are brilliant.

Beware if you have damaged nipples or blocked ducts!
Monday, 23 June 2014  |

I'm sorry to leave such a negative review - I really wanted these to work for me as I did not want to create the waste of using disposable breast pads, but I must warn anyone suffering from badly cracked nipples and/or blocked ducts not to use them. Due to my baby's tongue tie (which is now sorted) I had both cracked nipples and mastisis and unfortunately I'm convinced that persisting with these eco pads exacerbated the problems: since the pads are not at all shaped or contoured to the breast they crease and then when damp they rub uncomfortably against the breast. My worst area of mastisis developed in exactly the area where the pad had been creasing and rubbing the day before. Similarly my cracked nipple was uncomfortably compressed and squashed by the pad and rubbed raw when the pad was damp.
It is true that they are much softer on the skin than disposables, but they really need some shaping in order to work. I'm sure they're great if you have no breast problems, but I couldn't get comfortable until I switched to shaped disposables (horrifyingly the best ones I've found come individually plastic wrapped - arrghh - but better than painful boobs).

Sorry to hear you didn't get on with these. We've had lots of people change to the bamboo ones because they were sore from the disposable ones. Peeling off a dried disposable pad from scabs is very painful. Glad you've found something that worked for you in the end.

Mixed bag

I like the size, slimness and absorbency of these breast pads, however I am soooo tired of having fluffy nipples (and my baby having fluff around and inside his mouth more importantly) that I have stopped using the black ones. I'm not sure if they are worse than the white ones for fluff or if it's simply because it's black I can see it. My baby is now 7 weeks old so they have been washed numerous times, loose on a high spin, they are better than they were but I've had enough! I'm really disappointed as aside from this I really love these. (Washing instructions with the pads would be very helpful).
