Mother-ease Care Guide

Initial Wash

  • Add no more than 10-12 nappies to your washer & dryer in each initial wash. Remember to check your lint screen before each wash & dry.
  • Set your washing machine to a full wash cycle with a large size load for 10-12 nappies (smaller if less nappies). Use only HOT water.
  • Add your detergent - see detergent disclaimer.
  • Line dry or machine dry the diapers on a medium heat setting.

Regular washing

  • Be sure to wash your cloth nappies at least every other day. If the soiled nappies are stored longer, run them through the initial rinse cycle and toss back into your nappy pail. (Tip - you can add 1/2 oz of laundry detergent to the rinse cycle to start cleaning sooner.)
  • Use your washing machines normal wash cycle and set the water temperature to hot. Use a large load size (for 12-18 soiled nappies + covers) and add the detergent manufacturers recommended amount of detergent. Then let the machine take care of the rest!  (Tip - running the diapers through an extra rinse creates unnecessary wear and over the 2 1/2 years of use, you will reduce the longevity of your diapers). (Tip 2 - Select your washing machines Sanitary Cycle for even hotter water if you can.)
  • Once your nappies have finished the wash cycle, it's time to dry them. You can either line or machine dry them;

Line Drying - hang to dry in your basement or outside on the line. (Tip - Sun naturally removes stains. Even works on a cold, winters day as long as the sun is out

Machine Drying - Toss in your dryer on medium heat (low for covers). (Tip - Tossing line dried diapers into your dryer for a short cycle will fluff them up but tumbling action adds additional wear)

*Coloured diapers may bleed and should be washed accordingly

Mother-ease Warranty

Mother-ease offers a lifetime warranty on our Snaps and Elastics.
This warranty is for the reasonable lifetime of the diaper. This does not cover slight relaxing of elastics.

Mother-ease offers a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:
Sandys,  Fitted Diapers, One Size Fitted Diapers, Wizard Duo Inserts, Reusable Nursing Pads, Baby Wipes, Absorbent Liners and Wizard Boosters.

This covers product stitching, seams and fabric holes discovered immediately upon receipt of item. This does not include normal wear and tear, slight variances in snap placement, odour issues, pilling, leaks, staining, repelling and holes or tears in the fabric or loose stitching due to wash routine or regular use.

Mother-ease offers a 6-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:
Diaper covers, Wizard Uno's, Big Kid Training Pants and Bedwetter Pants.

This covers product stitching, seams, holes discovered upon arrival, and irregular deformity. This does not cover staining, fading, slight variances in snap placement, leaks, pilling, holes or tears in fabric or loose stitching that develop due to wash routine or regular use (items caught, torn or melted in the washer/dryer).

This warranty is available only to the original purchaser from the date of purchase.

All warranty is null and void when products containing harsh solvents such as hydrogen peroxide (oxygen bleach), sodium percarbonate or optical brighteners are used.

When washing your covers Mother-ease recommend you wash them in a mesh bag to keep them away from Velcro on your nappies and from getting caught in washing machine doors.  Always secure the Velcro on your wraps so they don't stick to the binding in the wash.
Please contact us if you think you have a faulty product and need to claim under the Mother-ease warranty. We will liaise with Mother-ease for you. Mother-ease will require any product to be returned or destroyed before a replacement.

The manufacturer may ask for proof of which detergent you have been using during the period you've had the item so we strongly recommend you keep your receipts you can prove you've been washing following the supplier's guidelines.  A photo of the detergent box and a photo of the detergent ingredients will be needed plus receipts of detergent purchases in the time you have owned the faulty nappies (usually 1 or 2 receipts showing purchases across the previous 6 months).  If you have bought Mother-ease's detergent through us during the time you've used the nappies please let us know and we'll have all your receipts already on record for you.

Mother-ease decision on any warranty claim is final.

Fab product but not exactly the right balance for us

I feel that a couple more night nappies rather than day nappies would really help. And five outers have not been enough for us. Once you start keeping your changing bag stocked with a spare outer and have a couple of nappies prepared (one day, one night), plus the one the baby is wearing, you can only cope with one being in the wash and can't afford leaks. But the nappies themselves are brilliant!

Overall a great nappy system

Having tried a few other newborn cloth nappies, traditional terries and wraps and then using disposable for a week (sooo many!), we went with the Motherease duo once our boy reached 10lbs.
Containment is excellent and there have been no poo leaks especially when used with a disposable liner. Once or twice there have been wet leaks at the top but mainly due to the nappy not being on correctly (husband learnt the hard way!). That said, this is also because the poppers are somewhat awkward on our long boy. Velcro would have been better for us but poppers may work better for others, depends on baby. Once in the routine of assembling the two parts they are quick and easy to use.
Sadly the pack doesn't come with boosters or additional liners and even though my boy isn't the heaviest wetter, he still requires a little extra booster with these nappies (I now use Bellz Bumz bamboo ones as they're slim). So something to keep in mind as it's an additional cost. The wet bag is a lovely extra.
The stay dry night nappies with a booster are brilliant and baby can go 8 hours no problems.
The nappies wash well and air dry relatively quickly. Overall they are a high quality product and worth the investment if you're happy to have poppers instead of velcro. I'll be using these again for second baby so feel we've more than got our moneys worth.

Mixed experience

These nappies perform well in terms of leakage and ease of use. However we could only start using these when our baby was 3 months old/ 12lbs as the nappies are very bulky and it made her bum tip upwards too much! We had a few urine leaks but no poo leaks and we have not had any nappy rash problems. They have affected the size of clothes she could wear and had to go a month older to fit around the nappies due to the size of them compared to disposables. She is now 5 months old weighing 16lbs and we are on the largest length size and second from largest width wise on the popper settings so I’m really disappointed that I cannot see these lasting anywhere near ‘potty’ age. The extortionate cost vs time of use for us is going to be a huge waste of money even though we have helped environmentally. For the cost of this set I would have expected a free sample to look at/ test out first as well as being able to choose your own designs. Our electricity bill has also gone up by £20 a month after the amount of full cycle washes we are now doing. The net bag that you wash these in has ripped 3 times so is no longer useable even though we have not put anything else in the wash with the nappies. We bought the recommended washing liquid from the website but felt that the language used about any returns or complaints of you didn’t use this was quite aggressive and felt we did not have a choice.
In hindsight I’m sad to say I would not buy these again.

So easy to use!

Even though I was determined to use reusable nappies, I had some trepidation. Was I about to make a very expensive mistake? I needn't have feared. The Motherease duo is brilliant. Easy to use, super absorbent, perfectly waterproof and a doddle to take care of. Baby is very happy. Not the slightest hint of nappy rash. And I'm happy knowing that every nappy washed is a nappy that never went to land fill. Just wish the starter pack came with a roll of liners, but that's a mere detail.

Excellent nappies, perfect number of inserts for full switch to cloth nappies.

We love the wizard duo system.

Some context about our baby: not a particularly heavy wetter, around 6 nappy changes in the day, settled to 1 nappy overnight at around 9 weeks old. Poops around 4 times a day. Mixed fed (2 bottles a day on average, otherwise breast fed).

We had baby in disposables for the first 2 months, so we can compare. It really isn't harder to use these, it just takes a bit of organisation. We need to do laundry every other day with the full set we have, although we have had to buy a few extra wraps (bringing us up to 8 wraps) as our baby is having 3-5 poops a day at 3 months, and is skilled at getting it on the wrap. The 15 day inserts and 5 night inserts in this pack are plenty to keep us going for a couple of days.

The poop has NEVER leaked out! It always stays inside the wrap regardless of how explosive the poop is. Not so much as a tiny stain on his clothes. The only poosplosion we've experienced was with a disposable nappy!

We've had a few urine leaks, but those were our fault: we started using them when he was just on the cusp of the minimum weight for the one-size nappies, and weren't quite putting them on right. Well worth watching a YouTube tutorial on putting them on right before you start! We've been leak free since we did that, and he got his little legs and bum chubby enough to fill the nappy out a bit (he started as a small baby, so that took some enchubbinating). It also happened once when the insert got full and we didn't change him in time. We can get between 2-3 hours with the day stay-dry insert, and can boost this up with a motherease booster (I bought a few of these separately). The night inserts last all night long, have never leaked.

His little bum has remained entirely rash free since we made the switch! The nappies feel like they're more comfortable than the disposable ones. They're also cheerful and cute. We have gone with non-brand nappy pails and laundry mesh bags which work great.

Unfortunately I can't comment about being out and about and needing a change: we have been in lockdown since we made the shift. However, I have got a couple of wet bags in the nappy bag, and am quite confident that this is not going to be an issue when we are finally allowed back out!

We pop the inserts through the dryer so probably aren't winning on the carbon footprint front, but I am happy not to be contributing to landfill. The quality of these nappies is great, solid stitching, well attached poppers: I can see them lasting until he's potty trained!

Also, no matter how smelly the poop, the smell never escapes these nappies!

Overall really happy with this purchase. The only reason it's 4stars is because I think the number of wraps could do with being higher. Although I think I may have received one less wrap than I was supposed to- but I can't be sure because I didn't think to double check the number I had with what was supposed to be on the order, and I already had one that I'd bought to check the wizard duo system out, and maybe I've lost one somewhere? So definitely double check your order when you first unpack them (which is just sensible life advice really, and I got what I deserved for not doing so)! I am happy with the value for money on this set. I did the maths and it's slightly cheaper than buying everything separately, and is the right number of nappies if you want to avoid daily laundry! We run out of the wraps long before we run out of the inserts (even with the extra wraps! Our child is strong with the poo-force).

Overall really happy with this purchase. An excellent set of cloth nappies, value for money, and the numbers of the inserts are spot on for a full switch to a re-usable nappy system!

We are three weeks in to our reusable nappy journey - our little one started wearing reusable from 6 weeks old - and so far we are loving this, both my husband and I find it super easy to fit the nappy, we have had no rashes, leaks or signs of discomfort since she started to wear them. Changing is quick and easy - would definitely recommend.
