Wizard Duo All In Two Overview

Wizard Duo is the revolutionary all in two nappy system from Mother-ease.

The Wizard Duo is a slim nappy consisting of two parts

  1. The Wizard Duo nappy insert
  2. The Wizard Duo covers

The Wizard Duo absorbent nappy insert poppers in and out of the Wizard Duo waterproof cover to make a nappy that goes on in one simple step.  The Wizard Duo inserts all give full width coverage and will not bunch.

Unlike other all in two nappies there is elastic all the way round the nappy insert This ensures you get the same excellent containment as you do from a two part nappy system but with the convenience of a one layer system.

Wizard Duo Inserts are for use ONLY with the Wizard Duo Wraps This page is ONLY for buying the inserts the Duo Covers are purchased separately.

The Wizard Duo is very similar to the all in one Wizard Uno except the Wizard Duo is better for longevity.

How many Wizard Duo inserts and covers do I need?

As a guide you will need 1 wrap for every 4 inserts.

A full time set would be 20 inserts with 5 covers.

We sell the Wizard Duo inserts and wraps singly so you can make your own perfect Wizard Duo nappy system. We also make our Nappy Lady Perfectly Balanced Wizard Duo nappy kits if you're prefer a quick one click purchase of everything you need.

Sizing

The Motherease Wizard Duo Inserts come in four sizes:

  • One size 10-35lbs

You can begin your cloth nappy journey once your baby fits into the One Size Wizard Duo at 10 lbs which will give you the most economical option as you only have one investment into your cloth nappy stash. The One Size is the most popular option.

There is always a compromise on fit with any one size nappy option and it will be bulkier at the lower end of the weight range. The alternative is you can move into the One Size Wizard Duo once your baby has outgrown the Small Wizard Duo. This option will give you the best fit at both weight ranges, as a One Size nappy will be a little bulkier a fit at 10 lbs than it would be at 18 lbs.

  • XS (Newborn) 6-12lbs

The Newborn Wizard Duo will give your newborn baby the most comfortable and trim fit upto 12lbs. The perfect reusable nappy option for those teeny tiny newborn babies.

  • Small 8-18lbs

The Small Wizard Duo provides a great fit up to 18lbs and is the best starting point for the majority of babies that are already around the 8 lb mark at birth. Starting with the Small before moving to the One Size will give you a nice trim fitting cloth nappy up to 18 lbs.

  • XL 35-45lbs

Perfect for larger babies.

For ultimate slimmess and fit the Newborn give a much trimmer fit and then later on move into the onesize. To save you the cost of buying the newborn size consider our Nappy Lady Wizard Duo newborn hire kits.

How do I use it?

This is the Nappy Lady method of making all in two nappy changes swift and efficient

  • Put baby in a clean Wizard Duo (cover and insert attached inside)
  • At the same time make a spare Wizard Duo set up and left on the changing table (cover and clean insert inside)
  • At the next nappy change time take the entire Wizard Duo cover and wrap off and set aside
  • Put baby in the clean spare set you made up earlier
  • Put baby somewhere safe or toddler is off to play
  • Now take out the soiled insert from the original cover and store in the nappy bucket
  • Put a clean insert back in this prevously worn wrap and this is now your spare set for next nappy change
  • Repeat this cycle of switching between wraps throughout the day.
  • Change and wash Wizard Duo wraps after 4 wears each wrap or if a wrap becomes soiled.

Make sure you watch our demo video above on how to use the system and rotate your wraps for ease of use.

Wizard Duo Nappy Fabric Options

Stay Dry Inserts

Wizard Duo Stay Dry Nappy Inserts are the best selling Duo option.

The Stay Dry Inserts are made from a Mother'ease exclusive high tech super absorbent hypoallergenic 100% polyester fabric.

  • Easy to rinse
  • Super quick to dry
  • Moisture wicking technology means they are dry to the touch even when wet.
  • Super durable fabric which helps prevent rashes like no other on the market.

Mother-ease do not use fleece in their reusable nappies or on nappy boosters like other brands do. Fleece slows absorption and that can cause leaks so Motherease had their own special staydry fabric created.

Mother-ease Staydry fabric is entirely different to any other staydry fabric on the market and it is made JUST for them!  Mother-ease use a specially knit fabric that creates a stay dry barrier by the weave in the fabric. It allows the wetness to easily pass through, but not back. Keeping the babies skin dry to the touch.

Another neat aspect is that they include a cooling yarn as well. This keeps the temperature inside the nappy lower - cooler for baby and reduces the growth of bacteria.

Stay Dry Nights

Same Stay Dry Insert as above but higher absorbency for night time.

The night inserts have green stitching so you can tell the difference between days and nights.

If you need your night time nappy capacity boosted even further then a booster can be simply placed between the cover and insert.

Natural Unbleached Cotton

Natural Cotton is the cheapest of the Wizard Duo insert options and is perfect for families that require natural materials next to babies skin. The cotton insert is suitable for the daytime but for night time would require boosting or use of the Stay Dry Night Insert.

  • Natural fibre
  • Wet feel
  • Average drying speed

Care of Mother-Ease Wraps

The binding on the Mother-ease wraps are the reason they are so fabulously waterproof so it's important to treat the binding with respect and make sure it can't get caught on velcro etc in the wash.

When washing your Mother-ease wraps place them in a mesh washing bag separate from anything that could catch on the binding like Velcro to keep them in excellent and reliable condition.

Mother-ease have very specific washing detergent requirements please read our washing page so you're aware of the requirements. This usually means that the wraps have to be washed separately to your nappies.

Wraps rarely need to be tumble dried as they air dry so fast however they can occassionally be tumble dried on low in an emergency.

Customer Review

I just wanted to email to tell you how impressed I am with the wizard nappy. We managed 2 1/2 hrs in it this morning strapped into a buggy with maximum crotch pressure as we were doing a very bumpy off road walk and the insert whilst damp felt pretty dry and nowhere near totally full or going to leak. They are so slim as well and she can walk properly not waddle in them. Just put her down for a sleep in the second one (the wrap wasn't even damp which was amazing). Bearing in mind that a hemp nappy with 2 hemp boosters and a microfibre booster last max 3hrs and a bamboozle stretch with 2 extra boosters does 2hrs and I have rarely manage to reuse a wrap as they are usually wet and stink of wee this is amazing (I just hope she wasn't holding on and not weeing this morning but I doubt it!). I shall try the superboosters in my other nappies later to see how they do. Tara

Mother-ease Care Guide

Initial Wash

  • Add no more than 10-12 nappies to your washer & dryer in each initial wash. Remember to check your lint screen before each wash & dry.
  • Set your washing machine to a full wash cycle with a large size load for 10-12 nappies (smaller if less nappies). Use only HOT water.
  • Add your detergent - see detergent disclaimer.
  • Line dry or machine dry the diapers on a medium heat setting.

Regular washing

  • Be sure to wash your cloth nappies at least every other day. If the soiled nappies are stored longer, run them through the initial rinse cycle and toss back into your nappy pail. (Tip - you can add 1/2 oz of laundry detergent to the rinse cycle to start cleaning sooner.)
  • Use your washing machines normal wash cycle and set the water temperature to hot. Use a large load size (for 12-18 soiled nappies + covers) and add the detergent manufacturers recommended amount of detergent. Then let the machine take care of the rest!  (Tip - running the diapers through an extra rinse creates unnecessary wear and over the 2 1/2 years of use, you will reduce the longevity of your diapers). (Tip 2 - Select your washing machines Sanitary Cycle for even hotter water if you can.)
  • Once your nappies have finished the wash cycle, it's time to dry them. You can either line or machine dry them;

Line Drying - hang to dry in your basement or outside on the line. (Tip - Sun naturally removes stains. Even works on a cold, winters day as long as the sun is out

Machine Drying - Toss in your dryer on medium heat (low for covers). (Tip - Tossing line dried diapers into your dryer for a short cycle will fluff them up but tumbling action adds additional wear)

*Coloured diapers may bleed and should be washed accordingly

Mother-ease Warranty

Mother-ease offers a lifetime warranty on our Snaps and Elastics.
This warranty is for the reasonable lifetime of the diaper. This does not cover slight relaxing of elastics.

Mother-ease offers a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:
Sandys,  Fitted Diapers, One Size Fitted Diapers, Wizard Duo Inserts, Reusable Nursing Pads, Baby Wipes, Absorbent Liners and Wizard Boosters.

This covers product stitching, seams and fabric holes discovered immediately upon receipt of item. This does not include normal wear and tear, slight variances in snap placement, odour issues, pilling, leaks, staining, repelling and holes or tears in the fabric or loose stitching due to wash routine or regular use.

Mother-ease offers a 6-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:
Diaper covers, Wizard Uno's, Big Kid Training Pants and Bedwetter Pants.

This covers product stitching, seams, holes discovered upon arrival, and irregular deformity. This does not cover staining, fading, slight variances in snap placement, leaks, pilling, holes or tears in fabric or loose stitching that develop due to wash routine or regular use (items caught, torn or melted in the washer/dryer).

This warranty is available only to the original purchaser from the date of purchase.

All warranty is null and void when products containing harsh solvents such as hydrogen peroxide (oxygen bleach), sodium percarbonate or optical brighteners are used.

When washing your covers Mother-ease recommend you wash them in a mesh bag to keep them away from Velcro on your nappies and from getting caught in washing machine doors.  Always secure the Velcro on your wraps so they don't stick to the binding in the wash.
Please contact us if you think you have a faulty product and need to claim under the Mother-ease warranty. We will liaise with Mother-ease for you. Mother-ease will require any product to be returned or destroyed before a replacement.

The manufacturer may ask for proof of which detergent you have been using during the period you've had the item so we strongly recommend you keep your receipts you can prove you've been washing following the supplier's guidelines.  A photo of the detergent box and a photo of the detergent ingredients will be needed plus receipts of detergent purchases in the time you have owned the faulty nappies (usually 1 or 2 receipts showing purchases across the previous 6 months).  If you have bought Mother-ease's detergent through us during the time you've used the nappies please let us know and we'll have all your receipts already on record for you.

Mother-ease decision on any warranty claim is final.

Love the stay dry material

I think the duo system is great! The quality of the wrap and nappy inserts are very apparent. Lovely designs and I like the stay dry material. They’re relatively slim and super easy to use for a novice to cloth nappying. The absorbency is great but I do use a booster as my son has just turned 3 now and is a heavy wetter. The one-size fits well but I’d say the top end of the sizing is a bit small. My son is 14 kg but these are a bit tight and leave red marks on his skin. I’ll definitely be using these on my next baby which is due in a few months. I’m officially a cloth nappy convert.

Very quickly grown out of

Great in terms of being leak-proof but I was disappointed that my small 6-month old very quickly grew out of the small size – we only had them for a couple of months! He is only ~14lbs with pretty slim thighs and they say they the small should fit up to 18lbs... but definitely not for us. Shame as it seems such a waste to have to get rid of them so quickly.

Provided free of charge as part of ambassador role. Views are my own.

I’ve just got one of these inserts to use with the Duo wrap (separately review written on there), so I’m using it as an AIO but leaving it poppered into the wrap. But it’s a really easy to use Ai2 system. The insert poppers in so easily. I love that it’s stay-dry topped and it feels really comfortable for my baby. We do need to boost though, which is easily done.

Bought for my daughter. I am pleased she wished to go re-usable. She started using these when her baby was around 9lbs (6wks) and has been happy that they don't leak. It could be coincidence but baby's nappy rash has improved considerably since using Mother-ease inserts the majority of the time. Thank you Nappy Lady!

These are great when used with the wizard duo outer wraps. Not too bulky on my 4 month old and really great absorbency. The night time ones last all night without any leakage. Really like using these, prefer them to disposables.

I have been looking for a night time nappy that doesn't leave my baby's skin soaking wet in the morning, and this is it!
The stay dry night time insert is abosrbant enough for all night, yet the skin feels just as wet as wearing a day time nappy. I use with a hemp booster.

We bought these to add a few more nappies to our stash for our daughter starting nursery. We usually go for Unos, but The Nappy Lady had Duos in stock, so we decided to try those. They are excellent - all of the benefits of the Unos and Motherease nappies more generally, and a bit easier to get hold of!

I bought a few to try out with a duo wrap I finally managed to get as there weren’t any stay dry inserts available and I have to say that I’m impressed. I use along with a large Sandy stay dry booster and one size duo wrap and love that you can pop the inserts out and reuse the wrap 👍🏻

Brilliant night nappy
Rating:
04 May 2019  |

These knocked our bamboozle stretches down from our top night nappy and knocked our Little Lambs completely out of rotation. They are insanely absorbent without being quite as bulky. As we air dry nappies and are in a hard water area, I also like that these don’t feel quite so rough and crunchy to touch as the bamboo and cotton nappies tend to be. The snaps are very secure, though so much so that we haven’t managed an easy mid-change insert swap with our wiggly little one. We bounce between two covers at night instead

We use the wizard duo stay dry night inserts reliably with no leaks or soreness, it really is wizardry!! Although my daughter still feeds regularly at night she wails if changed when sleepy; despite this the duo night insert still gives us 12hr overnight. Impressive, very much worth the wait and the investment!

Great for sensitive skin
Rating:
11 October 2018  |

I went for this nappy system due to reviews and Nappy Lady’s product info regarding the performance of the stay-dry layer against baby’s skin and I am happy to say that I have not been disappointed. We have tried cotton shaped nappies with Motherease Airflow wraps, Flip staydry nappies, disposables, various barrier creams and plenty of nappy-free time but it seems that, no matter, what my baby gets nappy rash quite easily. I had to stop using cotton nappies full time due to persistent nappy rash. So far (one week, daytime only), I am really impressed by the state of my baby’s skin in the Wizard Duo inserts. I haven’t yet been brave enough to stop using a barrier cream as a preventative measure but there’s no trace of rash or redness. I am still changing frequently - every 2-2.5 hours - as my daughter is a heavy wetter and still taking a lot of breastmilk at just 7 months old. The inserts are also washing well (including no stains after some ‘colourful’ weaning poos!) and they drying quickly so we are very happy overall. We did not have success with the Wizard Duo nighttime insert, however - even when boosted we had leakage - but she is breastfed on demand at night (co-sleeping) so I don’t know if any cloth nappy could hold the volume and still keep her skin happy! We might try the nighttime inserts again when she is taking less milk at night.

Too fiddly - not for us
Rating:
02 October 2018  |

I tried to get along with these as I really wanted to invest in a birth to potty system but really liked the two part sandys we had used previously for performance. My baby is a heavy wetter and infrequent but explosive poo-er so both containment and absorbency are important. I found the duos to be fiddly - up to 14 poppers for a single nappy is just too many - so changing time is very slow. Despite help from TNL I couldn’t cut down the change time or really see a way to avoid the fiddly nature without having one wrap per inner. My husband is very supportive of reusables in general but flat out refused to use these as they are too complex. In the end we’ve decided they are a bit over engineered. On performance the stay dry does what it says so it’s great for absorbency but we found leaking of poo at the leg crease to be an issue albeit not as bad as with all in ones. We’ve gone back to sandys despite this meaning we will need to size up later - 8 poppers per change is much better and with rikki wraps it’s even fewer! Phew!

Great for novice
Rating:
11 September 2018  |

I have the stay dry day and night inserts and use them with the wizard duo wraps. There are cheaper nappies out there but these are very convenient and I’d recommend them for anyone who is worried about being put off using washables by them being slow drying, overly bulky, or time consuming at changing. Also because they dry so quickly I find that the 3 wraps, 3 night time inserts and 12 day time inserts I have are enough, so on the whole I feel this system is not overly expensive. My son is about 7kg now and a day time insert lasts at least 3 hours and the night time insert lasts the whole 11 hours that he is in bed, it even takes the morning poop without leaking. I haven’t needed any boosters yet. I haven’t used any other washable nappies but I’m very happy with these, there is no comparison to disposables which we were using before, when poo up the back was a daily experience. Also even though my son is still at the lower end of the weight range, all his clothes including jeans fit over the nappy, though I have found vest extenders are a necessity.

Excellent night time nappy
Rating:
20 July 2018  |

This was my first attempt at using cloth over night as I was using disposables just because I wasn’t confident that a night time cloth nappy would be absorbent enough having never tried one. Also, with a three year old and a 6 month old I just wasn’t willing to take a risk on sleep! I really needn’t have worried so much- this is an excellent night time nappy. My little girl woke up dry and without the usual redness she gets from a night time in disposables. She even did a morning poo in her saturated nappy before I had the chance to change her and there was no leakage whatsoever. Thoroughly recommend this nappy, I was already a big fan of the ordinary wizard duo for daytime nappies but this is just as good.

Excellent absorbency but odd fit
Rating:
24 May 2018  |

I bought the stay dry night nappy insert and thought that the price was very steep but it was worth it as the absorbency is AMAZING! No leaks and no nappy rash after 12 hours use and frequent night feeds with my 14 month old. However I don't like the fit. My baby is medium weight and not very chubby but the fit is very snug. And I always worry that with one jolt in thenight the nappy will come undone or tear but so far so good. Definitely not a good nappy for chubby bubbas. Excellent service and customer care from The Nappy Lady and speedy delivery.

Amazing stay dry!
Rating:
27 March 2018  |

These stay dry inserts fit snuggly into the fabulous wizard duo wraps (which are so brilliant we use them as wraps for all our two part nappies as well!). They are nicely made, easy to change, speedy drying, slim fitting and with the absorbent core they do soak up a lot of wee without your baby’s skin feeling wet. The only thing for us is that having a super heavy wetting baby I found they did not last as long as our two part nappies, and whilst we use a booster (in between the wrap and the insert), this does make the nappy a bit bulky and therefore defeats the purpose for which we’d bought them! Still great on a day when we’re at home and can do more regular changes.

After reading the reviews, advice from the nappy lady and spending quite a bit of money I was really hoping these would be the answer to my night time woes. My 12 month old son is a heavy wetter and these only last one big wee and leak! The only thing that seems to work is eco disposables, unfortunately.
I do however like the design and the material of the nappy just a disappointment they didn't work for us.

Response:

Such a shame the night inserts aren't working for you. Your little one must be a really big wetter as the night insert holds 500ml so its likely to be more than one wee. For a heavy wetter you'll need to add additional boosters and these can be placed underneath the insert and they will self eject in the wash. I can't see any of these on your order, but we'd recommend you use a hemp booster

Highly recommended. Thanks to the Nappy Lady questionnaire this product was recommended. I wanted a quick drying option as, when I have tried other products they take ages and have really put me off moving to reuseables, well , that along with leaks. Stay Dry do just that. My baby is comfortable, they fit easily and securely into the liners with poppers and I actually LOVE nappy time now. On wash day they are almost dry coming out the washer. Just hang them over the bannister and they dry in a few hours. They are super reliable and really thin for a reusable. I am a complete convert and would recommend this product to anyone thinking about going to reuseables

The most reliable nappy ever!
Rating:
25 October 2016  |

Wizard Duos are utterly brilliant. I ordered them on the advice of The Nappy Lady, having given up on Totsbots Easyfits with their multiple daily leaks. I've now been using them on my son for about a month and have had no leaks at all! The Wizard Duo system is very slightly more fiddly than all-in-ones, but in exchange I don't need to change his outfit with every nappy because of wee leaks. I once forgot to change him for about 5 hours (...), and though the insert was soaking wet, everything outside the wrap was bone dry.
I chose the adjustable wrap, rather than perfect size, in the hope of economizing slightly. Difficult to say how the fit will change as he grows, but currently (he is 11 months and fairly chunky) the onesize insert plus large adjustable wrap is performing brilliantly. If I were the type to be evangelical about things, I would be about this nappy.

Odd fit
Rating:
07 September 2016  |

Works ok and we haven't had any leaks but I can't get it to fit as neatly as other motherease nappies (e.g. Sandy's, which for us gives the neatest fit). My baby is 12 months, is in the 9th percentile and has very slim legs. Whilst the wizard duo wrap fits a treat using the poppers on the rise, obviously there's no way to mirror the adjustment on the actual nappy, so we end up with bunching on the onesize nappy across the front when we reduce the rise on the cover. I have a wriggly baby who's very reluctant to be changed, but despite this, I prefer the Motherease Sandy's or Bamboozle Stretchies plus a Motherease Airflow wrap (despite the marginally extra time spent on the changing mat) because of the neater fit we can achieve.

We have been using Wizard Duos since my son was a skinny premie (used the sized xs and s to begin with ) and now that he is a 1 year old on the go (switched to onesize after he outgrew the Smalls). These are always the choice for our out and about nappies and the S.D. nights are great nappies as well. Having the insert have its own gussets is brilliant, it stops leaks, and means that covers can be a little looser fitting making them more breathable than most.

I ordered Motherease Wizard Duos one size from The Nappy Lady. They arrived very quickly and were well packaged.
The nappies are fantastic! I ordered the stay dry type and they really do live up to their name. They wash very well and dry very quickly(a couple of hours on the washing line on a dull day!)
They are the easiest reusable nappy I have ever used and the wraps are lovely and soft and great colours.
My son is 14 months and we have been using them for a good few weeks now. I ordered the one size as I was confident that my son would be big enough to not need individually sized nappies and they fit perfectly. The wraps are adjustable and haven't given him any red marks around his legs or tummy from the elastic.
I can't recommend these nappies enough so for anyone who thinks they are a bit expensive they are worth their weight in gold in my opinion.

We've been using wizard duo since baby was about 6 weeks old. They are really easy to use, great absorbance and virtually no leaks so far. Only cons, and hence 4 stars, because of the price and that the one-size inserts make the nappy bulky for baby when really small

Super fast drying

I don't normally write reviews but thought this product deserved one. My husband and I were a little worried about buying reusable nappies due to the drying speed but these pretty much come out of the washing machine dry! Dry in 2 hours outside in the sunshine and maximum of half a day inside on an airer - perfect!

Excellent stay dry insert

The stay dry insert is just amazing, my lil one has really sensitive skin and is prone to nappy rashes. I assume she's quite a light wetter as she managed to use the stay dry day insert with two ll bamboo boosters and that would last her all night no problems. She's never got a rash using this insert, not even when teething. Would recommend for those with sensitive skin babies!

As a real sceptic to the idea of washables, my husband persuaded me to open my mind to them and I am SO glad he did. We have these with staydry inners, both regular and night-time and they are truly fantastic. They dry really quickly and even after a long night my daughter's bottom is dry. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Effective night-time solution: Mother-ease Wizard Duo Stay Dry Night Insert and Cover
Rating:

I have a heavy-wetting toddler with sensitive skin. I must have tried every single nappy out there, trying to find a night-time solution. They leaked, or left her skin too wet, or didn’t fit her properly, or took forever to dry. I almost gave up, until I came across the Mother-ease Wizard Duo Stay Dry Night Insert and Cover. This nappy leaves her skin completely dry, even after 10-12 hours. It is easily boosted; even Daddy with his massive man hands can boost it with ease. This nappy comes out of the wash feeling almost dry and takes a matter of hours to dry completely on the line. It washes really well too. I have 3 inserts and covers that have been in constant use for over a year and they still look fantastic; no bobbling, no smells or staining. The cover is popper fastening, so her nappy stays on, as she cannot undo the poppers. As the insert and the cover are elasticated at the legs and waist, I feel this nappy performs as well as a two-part system. I like that the nappy goes on in one, but comes apart for a thorough clean. The cover binding doesn’t wick and is gentle on her legs and waist. Unlike microfibre nappies and inserts from other brands, I find that the liquid is locked away and doesn’t squeeze out when compressed, even when she has been laid in the same position for a while. It is a surprisingly trim nappy, even when boosted. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Mother-ease Wizard Duo Stay Dry Night Insert and Cover as an effective night-time solution for a baby with rash prone skin.

What a brilliant nappy product. The bamboo inserts are incredibly absorbent and wash really well. I like the stay dry insert - I got two of these when my elder daughter was just about to potty train when she used to hold on and then wee huge volumes in one go and leak out of every other nappy we'd ever tried, a wizzard stay dry managed 3hrs out off road walking in a buggy with a tight crotch strap providing maximum squeezing/leaking power. If I were starting over again I think I'd only have these nappies. They fitted my very very skinny 2nd centile elder daughter but also fit my current chunky baby
