We are stocking the New improved 2016 Bumgenius Elemental, these are the latest version available.
The Bumgenius Elemental is an ultra slim, absorbent and organic nappy. The beautiful soft cotton stays soft even in hard water areas.

The Bumgenius Elemental features:

  • Super absorbent, certified organic cotton
  • Better design means fewer leaks and an ultra-trim fit
  • Generous sizing accommodates more babies
  • Easily tuck any insert inside nappy for custom absorbency
  • Durable snap closures
  • 3 x 3 snap down design adjusts the sizing to small, medium, and large sizes (approximately 8-35 lbs)
  • Trim, snug, and comfortable stretchy tabs gently flex around your baby
  • Exclusively made in the United States

It really is highly absorbent, which is something many all-in-one nappies aren't. I find I don't have to change this nappy any more frequently than I would a two part nappy. It is fully lined with organic cotton inside and also has a separate layer of organic cotton that is attached at both ends but loose in the middle. This increases the drying speed of the nappy and also allows room for an additional booster if necessary.

The Elemental has the stretchy tabs Bumgenius is famous for and these help ensure a snug fit. The nappy fits birth to potty (7-35lbs) and is easily adjusted into three length settings by using the poppers on the front body of the nappy. There is no need to keep buying different sizes as this nappy will easily fit most children birth to potty. I've tried the nappy on babies from 7lbs at fittings and it's fitted beautifully whereas other birth to potty all in ones were still very bulky.

The Bumgenius Elemental is just as easy as a disposable, no stuffing the nappy and no separate wrap requried. The Bumgenius Elemental doesn't have an inbulit fleece liner so you have the choice of either using paper liners (Bambinex liners fit the best) or a separate fleece liner if you'd prefer.

The Bumgenius Elemental is suitable for night time use for most babies apart from very heavy wetters. Use with the little weed hemp boosters in the small size.

It is recommended that these are prewashed 10 times. I only prewashed mine twice and this was fine but I made sure I changed more frequently until they had all their 10 washes.

Wash the Bumgenius Elemental is 1/4 of the recommended amount of detergent, double rinse (one rinse before the wash and one afterwards is fine).

Wash dark colours separately for at least two washes until you are sure no colour is coming out of them.

Brilliant night time nappy, with little weeds hemp booster and fleece liner. Haven't had any leaks. Hemp booster seems to big initially but does fit if you pull the nappy on both ends to its full length. Great addition to our bamboozle stretch night nappies, as the bumgenius nappies dry faster, so prevent us from running out of night nappies.

Slim & good quality
Monday, 19 February 2018  |

I bought one of each of the following AIO nappies (Bambino Miosolo, Bumgenius Elemental, Bamboozle Stretch, EasyFit Star, RealEasy)

The Bumgenius Elemental felt the best made in terms of quality, but took much longer to dry and removing stains (worn without a fleece liner) was much harder than in the others AIOs. It's definitely the smallest; practical to pack in changing bag and less bulky on baby's bum.
I don't think I will be buying more of those because the drying time was too long for how I run my laundry and I'm never confident I have got it on properly.
No leaks though !

Ok but not good value
Wednesday, 3 January 2018  |

I had read so many great things about this nappy I had high hopes for it but I was a little disappointed it is overall good, bit tricky to fit and the design means it takes ages to dry but it is absorbent and contains well. However I think for the price there are better nappies for less so not great value.

I bought this nappy because of it's great reviews but it wasn't so intuitive for me how to use it, so at first we had several leaks. But then I watched the nappy lady's video and now It's my favorite nappy.

So easy and quick to put on my 23 week baby. Not too bulky. I use as my night nappy with a booster and fleece liner and can get 12 hours (baby only wakes once for a feed over night so this could contribute to how long it lasts). Only negative point is that it takes me almost 2 days to dry around the house but for how well it works I plan to just gradually buy more over time to build supply so this won't be an issue.

Very absorbant
Saturday, 27 May 2017  |

We use this nappy for night time only, and the Bumgenius Freetime for the day. The Elemental we use with the Hemp Babies Little Weeds booster. It's a bit of a tight fit to get it done up as it's quite thick, but it does make it very absorbant. We have a chubby 2-month-old.
It takes much longer than the Freetime to dry, both because of the fabric, and because you can't open it out so much.

Amazing!
Wednesday, 29 March 2017  |

I bought a few of these elementals as I needed a few extra nappies for my 2 and a half year old. I usually use Bumgenius V4s, but I wish I'd used elementals from the start! They are so absorbent! With only one slim hemp booster they last a good 3-4 hours, probably more. The other major benefit is that they are much slimmer, and don't take up as much space in the wash as the v4s plus 3 boosters that i usually use!

Perfect, one you've got the knack
Sunday, 2 October 2016  |

These are my favourite nappies!! They're lovely and slim without compromising on absorbancy and they're easy to put on. Drying time is not too bad either as long as we flip them inside out so the two cotton layers aren't together, if that makes sense. We also have to be careful to make sure to really tuck the leg cuffs into the knicker line or else we can get some wee leaks. But overall I love them and I'd happily have my entire stash be Elementals if only I could get hold of some more!!

Bumgenius All In One
Tuesday, 26 July 2016  |

These nappies have so far been great. My son's nappy rash has decreased considerably since the using these, we've not had any leaks and he seems very happy in them- fascinated by the bright green colour. The only negatives....
-they are quite tight around his legs and leave red marks- so I'm constantly checking for broken skin etc. they only get a chance to heal at bathtime,
-and they have taken more than the stated 9 hours to dry on airer inside (overnight). this is not a problem while I can dry them outside (much quicker) , but I am a little concerned about the winter months.

Not as good as I'd hoped
Monday, 11 July 2016  |

I read loads of reviews about this nappy, spoke to the nappy lady about my requirements (thin nappy to allow freedom of movement, good absorbency for night time use) and decided to spend big and invest. Whilst they are super thin and great quality, and we've not had any leaks, they are very damp against my daughters sensitive skin even after a short while (basically after a coupke of wees) and with a fleece liner. We did all the necessary pre washing but as the fleece liner doesn't cover all of the absorbent inner I always feel like there's damp cloth in contact with her skin and she's prone to nappy rash. I certainly wouldnt be happy using them at night as suggested. I've since bought some Wizard Duo nappies and far far prefer them.....still pretty thin, great containment and super dry against her skin even after 13 hrs (with a booster). I might sell my Bumgenius now, although I'm annoyed how much money I'll loose in doing so.

I'm not impressed with the Elemental. Love Bumgenius but just not a fan of this. It takes too long to dry and I find if the bamboo layer isn't laid flat or it misses baby, you can get leaks. Much prefer the Freetime, wish I got more of those instead.

I love them. I have used them on my baby since she was a couple of weeks old, now 7 months. Also our 3 year old wears one at night with a booster for just-in-case. (She loves choosing which colour and says they are comfy so was happy converting from a disposable which I was using before). I have been tumble drying for speed and convenience, though I am sure this will reduce the nappies life span a lot. So far no sign of wear. I prefer the way these fit to the Bumgenius Freetime. There's no way I could get a Freetime on my 3 year old now - too small and low slung.

Great nappy
Wednesday, 25 May 2016  |

Having read few birth to potty nappy reviews, we started using Bumgenius nappies when our daughter was 4 months old, and they have been working really well for us!
We bought 5 Bumgenius elementals for night time and 10 freetimes for the day initially, but this meant that we had to put wash on everyday. Since then we have bought 5 more elementals, now we put wash on every other day, and there are no more worries about running out of clean dry nappies!
Yes they are quite expensive, but I see them as a very good investment!!

Takes way too long to dry
Friday, 20 May 2016  |

I wanted to love this nappy, as it's very simple, being all in one, is made of nice natural fabric, & fits my long baby pretty well (although it does bunch a lot more than others). But the extreme amount of time it takes to dry prevented me from buying any more than one. The way it's made means all pieces are attached front and back so, it's impossible to get the lining pieces properly separate to get air either side to speed up drying (like you can with the Freetimes). So it takes 2 days + to dry, meaning you'd need to buy so many to have a sustainable stash & be able to wash every couple of days.

Great nightime nappy
Tuesday, 17 May 2016  |

I love these nappies! I tried other night nappies but I didn't like how wet the nappy got and having to use a wrap too, it seemed so bulky on my little baby. I've totally converted to these. For nightime I put in a flip night insert which is the same fabric as the elemental, it's not too crazily bulky. I've never had a leak in the 12 hours he's in them. They look really lovely too. They're not cheap but I've finally found a system that works for us for nights that I really like. I use Bumgenius free-times and pockets in the daytime. You can of course use these in the daytime too, especially if you like the idea of organic cotton. They take a while to dry, so I prefer just to use them at night. Great service as always from the nappy lady!

Great option for those sceptical about cloth
Monday, 18 April 2016  |

I was so pleased that the Nappy Lady recommended these to me. I wanted to go for cloth but didn't want baby to have a giant bum and not fit all of her sister's hand-me-down outfits! These are not much thicker than disposables and are so soft and look much more comfy on baby.

The containment on these is listed as not being great but I think that's in comparison to other cloth nappies - I have found it to be excellent in comparison to disposables - no more soaking outfit after outfit in Vanish Gold!!

I would highly recommend these nappies, however, you do need to heed the advice to wash 10 times before you expect the maximum absorbency out of them.

Fantastic!
Monday, 22 February 2016  |

I have a mix of elementals and freetimes and I am in love with both! The elementals are wonderfully absorbant and so simple to put on. Since my husband was supportive of, but a little daunted by, my desire to use cloth nappies I thought that getting all-in-ones would be the simplest way to ease us both through the transition from disposable to cloth, and it has been a great success! My husband has become thoroughly converted, so much so that we are now using disposable wipes as well, at his suggestion! We are currently using the elemental at nights as well as during the day (the plan being to move on to wraps and a two part system at night when needed), and so far we have had no leaks at all. I just use a basic booster with the elemental and it lasts us all night wonderfully. The elemental does take quite a while to dry, but used alongside the freetimes it has not caused any problem for us so far, and they probably take around a day to dry completely on a overhead airer next to the woodburner in the kitchen (the freetimes dry within a couple of hours). If I could suggest a tip to those thinking of building up a stash over 2 or more purchases it would be to buy the darker colour prints first, and let the dye finish bleeding before buying the very light colours (I have a couple of greyish whites which were washed in a load with some stellars a little too early - my own fault entirely!). I thoroughly recommend both elemental and freetime nappies and have already added to my own stock - the hardest part about using this nappy is choosing between all the lovely colours and prints!

These are really slim under clothes, easily the slimmest we have used. I was not too impressed at first with how long they lasted before leaking, so starting using with a bamboo booster which worked well. After a few weeks I used it without the booster and it lasted 6 hours before our very heavy wetter eventually pooed, could have lasted longer! Definitely get more absorbent with washes. I would recommend to buy pre loved though, as expensive.

I can't tell you how much I love these nappies. I have a collection now of 12 and that's roughly 2 days worth. I used them alot and once you put them on properly I don't have leaks etc which I used to have loads of due to the disposal nappies. I like the fact that I know what they are made of and trust that my babies bum is not covered in chemicals. I literally will not do long journeys to London without making sure she's in these. They have made life easier and my baby is also happier. Make sure you use the fleece liners though on top which keeps the babies bottom dry. Love them. They seem expensive but due to how ,ugh I've cut down on disposable nappies it works out and I'm also saving a fortune in the long run and have bought these do I can use them if I'm lucky enough to have another baby.

These nappies are excellent... They are so absorbant and have excellent containment (especially for the 'exploding breastfed poos' people so often talk about!).
They are very high quality and wash well. They dry on the washing line during the day, or I find they're dry overnight if given 12-16 hours indoors.
No issues with the inside bunching if you fold them as the nappy lady illustrates in her video... I actually fold the two bits of fabric separately for my baby.

They give us up to 5 hours but I find the absorbant bits bunch up in the middle, leaving deep marks on lo's bum and if she does a big wee towards the end of her time in the nappy it puddles in the outer and leaks through. It might suit us better when she's a bit bigger, but there are other bumgenius nappies I prefer

Response:

For daytime 5 hours wear time is far too long. For hygiene reasons in the daytime you should be changing 3-3.5 hours and more frequently if baby is under 6months old. For an all in one we recommend 3 hours wear time. The bunching is because the nappy has got saturated and is too wet.

Not as good as Bumenius Freetime. I don't like that flaps are fixed on both ends: not only it dries longer but also I can't customise it for heavy wetting boy and it doesn't work well on smaller setting. Outer fabric, as in other Bumgenius nappies, is rather stiff comparing to other brands. It is quite absorbant, good quality and generally does the job.

So far no leaks or complaints and it really is super slim. I used a previous version of this nappy for my daughter a few years ago and can happy report that this new and improved version is much much better.

Great - recommend!
Thursday, 14 May 2015  |

I'm really pleased with the Bumgenius Elementals. This is the only nappy I use. I started when my daughter was 14 weeks as until then she was a bit small for washable (those I tried leaked a lot) and it just was easier once she pooed less frequently. Things that are great re Bumgenius Elementals:

1) almost never leak, even with explosive poos! Even when they do its just a tiny bit. This was my main reason for changing from disposables and I would never go back. It's just great how reliable they are, meaning you can safely get your baby to somewhere you can change her without any great escapes! Her clothes are in much better condition now and it's much less work for me. I have only needed to use her spare change of clothes once in the last 3 months. See point 1 & 2 though below.
2) really easy to put on and take off - because the tabs have such good elastic, getting them on is, I find, easier than doing disposables, especially with a very wriggly baby!
3) lovely organic cotton next to baby's bottom stays fresh and washes well. We use bambinex liners which are very good. I think this is better than the free time microfibre, which doesn't wash as well. See point 2 below though.
4) follow the Nappy Lady's advice on turning them inside out and they dry well.
5) lovely colours.
6). So slim and neat! Clothes fit easily over them.

Things to watch out for:
1) you really do need to wash these 10 times to get them absorbent enough (like bath towels). You don't have to dry them each time for these prep washes though, so I just keep throwing them in with each wash for a few days. Until that point they can be a bit leaky.
2) unlike the Freetimes, the lining is not sewn throughout the cover. The lining can therefore bunch up a bit, leaving the edges of the cover exposed and prone to leaks. This goes away with the pre-washing though, and you must make sure to fold the lining as the Nappylady advises. At first this annoyed me and I wished I'd invested in the Freetimes instead, but now it's sorted with the washing and folding I'm glad I went for the lovely fresh cotton of the Elementals.
3) I find I have to change these every 2-3 hours max.
4) poos get easier as the baby weans and mostly stay on the liner which can be flushed. But in any case, there will be poo to deal with! My method is to rinse the nappy thoroughly in cold water as soon as I can manage after the change (you can actually do this by holding it in the flushing water in the loo - I keep rubber gloves in the bathroom for this purpose!). I then just wring it out and throw it in a dry pail with the nappies that have only wee. I then put the whole lot in with my regular wash at 40 or even 30 degrees (remember the rinsing means there's no poo left, just the discolouration) and add a spoonful of stain remover. I use an 'Eco' biological powder. This means I don't run the washing machine any more than usual. No stains, everything looks great.

I really recommend them! They're a pleasure to use and I'm really glad we went for it.

Poor containment
Tuesday, 12 May 2015  |

I was looking for an all in one nappy, hoping it would save on assembly time. However, containment has been so consistently poor with this nappy that I've decided to continue on with my Gnappies and Little Lambs with wraps. The extra assembly time is worth it because those nappies don't leak.

Response:

sorry to hear you didn't get on with these nappies. Containment is normally very good considering they are an all in one nappy. Please get in touch with us and we'll be happy to help you use them successfully.

Great Product and service

Always delighted with the service from The Nappy Lady - prompt, reliable, and very quick dispatch. Queries with my postage confusion were easily resolved. The Elemental nappy had been requested by users of our Cloth Nappy Library and is being tried out already.

Elemental bumgenius

The flaps don't come out like the bumgenius all in ones making it v slow drying and not easy to hang out either. Good absorbency though but I prefer the older ones .

great product and service

I love these nappies! I've been using terry squares with motherease wraps full time including at night though finding it a struggle getting clothes to fit as they're quite bulky. I bought 3 of these to use when going out. They leaked a bit at first but not any more now they've been washed a lot (only prewashed 3 times initially). They take a bit longer to dry than the terries which dry in a flash but not too much longer. would definitely recommend.
