LIMITED TO 1 PER HOUSEHOLD
Welcome to the Special Edition Pop-Pop Charity page.
The Nappy Lady website is 20 years old on the 30th November 2019 and to celebrate we have worked with Motherease to create this beautiful special edition print. There is a very personal story behind this nappy which I'd like to share with you.Wendy & Pop Pop
The Pop Pop Motherease print has been named in memory of my Dad, affectionately known as “Pop Pop” to his three Grandchildren. When I was a young child I heard my Dad call his Dad Pop so I repeated it as Pop Pop and it stuck forever more. When I had my own children children my Dad of course wanted to be a Pop Pop too! Even when my eldest got older Dad told him you call me Grandad now if you want but nope it was Pop Pop forever!
Dad was a generous and hardworking man who had a lifelong passion for motorbikes. When he wasn’t at work, he was always found in his shed tinkering about with his beloved classic bikes. What Dad didn’t know about a motorbike wasn’t worth knowing. Growing up there were always people stopping by for his expert help. I had no interest in motorbikes so other than knowing what BSA stands for, I’m no help with your motorbike problems, nappy questions on the other hand I’m your lady! Dad always dreamed of running his own motorbike shop but unfortunately this never happened, so he was delighted in my development of The Nappy Lady.
Dad was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2014 and underwent aggressive and life changing treatment. He bravely faced each stage and he never gave up hope of a recovery. In 2017 the cancer was back and had spread. After a critical infection he was referred to his local hospice St Raphael’s and was given 48 hours to live. The care St Raphael’s gave him was faultless and for the first time in years his pain was kept under control. Those 48 hours came and went and three weeks later he was discharged. Dad remained under St Raphael’s community care for another six months until he finally lost his battle in early 2018.
Throughout his life Dad loved supporting a variety of charities and arranged fundraising events with his motorbike club. This November is The Nappy Lady’s 20th Anniversary and to celebrate we have worked with Motherease to create our Pop Pop charity print. 1000 Onesize Pop Pop Unos will be lovingly made by Motherease. £10 from every Pop Pop Uno will be donated to St Raphael’s Hospice to thank them for the tremendous support and comfort they provided my Dad.
The Nappy Lady
Pop Pop Certificate Card
Each Pop Pop Uno will come with it's own certifcate card. The card will tell the Pop Pop story, details about St Raphaels and your nappy's release number eg. 44/1000 We will keep records of each Pop Pop and which order number it was sold too in case of any queries. (The one in the photo is Number 1/1000 and will be kept by Wendy.)
Orders restricted to 1 per person. Due to the expected demand for this special edition print we are restricting orders to try and share the Pop Pop story with as many people as possible. Any orders placed for more than 1 will be cancelled. Please just buy 1 and leave the rest for others. In total 1000 Pop Pop Unos are being made and these will be released in batches over several months as it will take Motherease time to produce this many.
Why is Pop Pop more expensive than a normal Uno print?
As this is a charity print I decided to increased the price to £25 instead of the usual £23. The additional £2.00 will be going direct to St Raphaels. The Nappy Lady is then quadrupling this to make a total of £10 donation per nappy so we can raise an amazing £10,000 for St Raphaels. Keep an eye on our fundraising total updates which we'll release as Pop Pop sells through. This print was my (Wendy's) idea as a way to not only celebrate our 20th anniversary but also to give me the opportunity to give back to an amazing charity that has really touched my family. I would hate that people though Pop Pop was all about profit as I know how crazy popular the Unos are at the moment. Pop Pop has been and continues to be a very cathartic journey for me.
Use your Pop Pop!
As this is a special edition charity print we want people to buy this nappy to use and love and not for keeping on a shelf. Life is short make every day a special nappy day. My family would love to see your little ones enjoing their Pop Pop, please share your Pop Pop images with us and use the #forPopPop
Any other products coming in the Pop Pop print?
There will only be 1000 Pop Pop Charity Unos made in total. The 1000 will be split between staydry and organic options (far more staydry than organic due to the popularity of the staydry.) If there is enough reserve fabric left at the end of the production, we "may" make some Airflow covers. We will not be able to confirm this until the Uno production is finished and we know how much reserve fabric is left. I've been overwhelmed by the amount of people who have offered to donate to St Raphael's without buying Pop Pop. I've set up a Just Giving Page where you can do just that. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
St Raphael's Hospice
St Raphael's hospice has been providing expert hospice care for over 30 years to families in Merton and Sutton. Their service is provided free of charge. The hospice needs £6 million a year to run. They only receive 24% of their costs from the NHS and the remainder, more than £4 million per year, St Raphael's needs to raise themselves. Broken down this means the daily cost of running the entire hospice is £16,400 . More information can be found out about St Raphael's on their website www.straphaels.org.uk
