Nappy Overview

Charlie Banana Original Grab Packs contain 3 nappy outers and 6 corresponding inserts.  The Grab Packs offer a discount compared to buying individually. Charlie Banana Original Onesize nappy is made up of a waterproof outer pocket and you insert the washable pads into the pocket/pouch. Once the nappy is stuffed the nappy is just like an all in one system making it perfect for childcare or when quick changes are needed.

The Charlie Banana nappy is different to all others on the market as the length is altered by tightening or loosening the elastics rather than poppers on the front of the nappy. This method of altering the fit makes for a very sleek smooth looking nappy when it's on baby.  Charlie Banana isn't the longest pocket/all in one nappy (MioSolo still wins that) but I find it's longer than many others making it a good choice for tall but not SUPER tall toddlers.  The nappy is also quite narrow but this can mean it's too slim for a super big chunky monkey but for the vast majority of children from slim to chunky it's fab.

As with other pocket nappies the nappy is only designed for daytime use and should not be used as a night time nappy.

Charlie Banana nappies are a onesize nappy which fits 10-35lbs.  The nappy size is adjusted through altering the elastic setting at the legs. The elastic is pulled tight for small babies and gradually released as babies grows. The elastic has sizes marked on it to make it simple to alter, there is an xs, 2 small settings, 2 med settings and 2 large settings.

How do I use it?

The elastic is altered just like a bra strap so there aren't any buttons like the in previous Charlie Banana versions. The elastic is hidden in the nappies fleece lining so can't be seen on soiled or irritate. While it seems like altering the elastic to fit is fiddly you must remember you'll only be altering the fit when baby grows so normally when you put the nappy on you won't need to alter it at all. Must of the alterations will be in the first 6 months when baby is growing rapidly but after this it could be 3-6months between needing to alter them.

The small insert is to fit in the nappy length positions xs and smalls, the larger pad is for the nappy length positions med and large. You can use both pads together when the nappy is in the larger setting to give you more absorbency but this does make it bulkier.

When you take off the soiled nappy you must take out the inserts from the pocket/pouch before putting the nappy into your storage bucket/bag. A great tip is when you stuff the pocket make sure you insert the pad with the Charlie Banana label towards the front. Then when you unstuff the nappies to put them in the bucket you can pull on the label so you don't have to touch the wet pad.

I always recommend washing nappies at 60deg however the Charlie Banana recommends washing no higher than 40deg. If you wash over 40deg this negates the Charlie Banana guarantee so reluctantly I recommend washing Charlie Banana at 40deg (personally I still wash mine at 60deg with my other nappies but that is at your own risk!)

Charlie Banana comes with fast drying microfibre inserts. The fast drying makes the nappy ideal for those with limited drying options. The lining of the nappy is soft fleece to keep baby dry and comfy.

Feels good, fits good
Monday, 25 November 2019  |

Really like Charlie Banana for our little one. Like that it comes with two different sized inserts so you can have a slimmer looking nappy or use the other as a booster. The only downside is that it recommends washing at 40 degrees so when you have other brands that can all be washed at 60 itís a bit of a pain.

Custom fits to your baby
Monday, 28 May 2018  |

I was recommended to try this brand by a friend as one of my 16 month old twins has skinny legs and we have problems with gaping at the legs with many brands. As this has the bra strap design you can size the legs to fit your baby. Unfortunately the markers on the leg elastics rubbed off after the first wash (indicating S,M, L etc). The inserts are surprisingly absorbent and quick drying. They wouldn't be suitable for night time but suit us fine in the day. It's tricky to fit other brand inserts in the pockets, perhaps this is because when the elastic is narrowed down it doesn't leave much room. Overall fits the intended purpose.

Love These Nappies
Sunday, 29 March 2015  |

My baby ended up being a month early and was rather skinny when we brought him home. We started really using cloth at about 2 weeks and the Charlie Bananas were the only BTP nappies that fit. They don't look giant, even on a small baby. We have never had a leak with them and I love the adjustability of the legs, not just with the bra strap elastic, but the poppers setting as well. CBs are our go to nappy.

Great day nappies
Wednesday, 28 January 2015  |

We have used these since day one of our little un's arrival and have been very pleased.
They come with two pads per nappy, one small and one large. We have had to use both since week three to avoid leaks (we have a heavy wetter). If you have a boy I think you also need to be careful to make sure the pads are at the front - again, limits leakages.
The nappies when made up are not too bulky meaning you can get enough in a change bag for a day out and clothes aren't too adversely impacted.
We have 15 nappies which means we wash one load a day. The outer is almost dry from the spin cycle and the pads dry easily in a day both on the line or inside.
These are not great night nappies as they don't hold the volume, we change every 2/3 hours.
My only slight bugbear is that the fitting involves quite a bit of trial and error (and outfit changes!) as there is not guidelines for the sizes. Once you have that sorted these are great and have even converted my sceptical hubby to the world of reusables.

Love these!
Wednesday, 13 August 2014  |

These nappies are soft beautifully soft and the fact they feature the bra strap technology's means they even work well for my daughter at only 7 days old weighing 7.5lbs with really skinny legs! I can't comment on how well they work for older children as I used different cloth nappies with my older child, but I would certainly consider investing in more of these nappies for my daughter.
They have washed well so far (only a couple of times admittedly) and dried really quickly (which is vital to us as we don't have a tumble dryer). Very impressed with the Charlie Bananas and would recommend them from what I've seen so far.

Easy to use, good fit
Wednesday, 28 May 2014  |

Lovely bold prints. Really good fit around my daughters legs - no leaks which had become a daily occur acne with disposables. Only reason not 5* elastic around legs very fiddly (but worth it for great fit as I trialled a quite a few pocket nappies before choosing CB nappies)
