Disana Organic Muslins Overview

Disana Muslins are made of Organic Cotton and are larger than most other muslins on the market.

The larger size of the Disana muslins means they are even more absorbent ideal for a baby that is feeding really well and wetting lots.  The size also offers perfect absorbency for using over naps and night time without having to add a booster.

When your Disana muslins first arrives Parents are often concerned about how "rough" the muslins feel. Please do not worry this is how the flat fabric feels when new but the muslins will feel entirely difference once they are washed. With washing the muslin fibres absorb water and expland and fluff up to their full absorbency and softness. The more you wash your Disana muslins the softer and more absorbent the muslins are.

How do I use it?

Muslins when used as newborn nappies give you enough absorbency for 2-2.5 hours. This is the recommended change frequency for a newborn regardless if they are using disposable nappies or reusable. Muslins absorbency perfectly matches this change frequency and ensures baby is kept to the correct change schedule for their age.

When using the Disana muslins as newborn reusable nappies you first need to fold them. The very best fold for folded muslins is the Jo Fold.  The Jo Fold is incredibly easy to fold and is super adjustable to alter the length as baby grows. The Jo Fold also concentrates the absorbency in the middle where newborns either boys or girls need the most absorbency.

As the Disana muslins are larger then normal you will need to cross over the corners during the first steps of the Jo Fold to make the nappy shorter.

Once folded the Disana muslins is held in place with a Nappi Nippa.  Nippas are very simple to use and after a few practices putting a nappy on a teddy bear you'll be an expert. No risk of scratching baby or poking them with a nappy pin.

Disana Care Guide

  • Prewash cotton nappies twice once before first use.
  • Remove all solid waste before washing cotton nappies
  • Remove any inserts from covers so they can thoroughly washed
  • Don't overload your machine.
  • Put your cotton nappies through a rinse cycle before the main wash
  • You can wash your cotton nappies at 40 or 60 deg using a full dose of detergent
  • Use a long cotton wash. Cotton nappies love a long wash
  • No harsh stain removers or bleach on cotton nappies or wool wraps.

Newborn Nappy
Rating:

I've been using these muslins under either a Mother Ease Airflow or Petit Lulu Pull Up for daytime for the first 6 weeks on my newborn. We have hard water so they do feel quite rough at the beginning of each use but so does most of my washing! I use a Bat Wing fold which I don't find is great for poo containment but the Petit Lulu Pull Ups are pretty bomb proof. I love their versatility - milk dribble, spillages and also breast pads. I love that they don't leave tight marks on my baby and I prefer the natural qualities and flexibility for a newborn.

Unfortunately after numerous washes they still feel so rough can’t use on my baby…what I’m doing wrong? I’ve used Bio-D detergent.

Very thin muslins.

I returned them so I am not able to properly review the item. However here are my impressions:

One of the Muslins was considerably smaller than the rest of them. That doesn't seem quite right.

I love - that they are organic.

What I don't like - the muslins are very thin. So thin that if you'd put it on your babe with a nappi nippa it would probably be very uncomfortable for your little one.

Response:

Sorry you found one of the muslins a different size this definitely isn't correct and would be something we could have replaced if informed. Muslins feel very different when they are new to when they have been washed a few times. New muslin fabric is very flat and feels thin however once the fabric has been washed it expands, fluffs up and feels much thicker and softer.

The muslins are very soft and of great quality, I’ve been using them for years and they wash and last very well. This is my first order of them from the Nappy Lady, they arrived very quickly, much quicker than I’d expected.

They’re okay - absorbant after a few washes but does not feel soft to use as nappy. I wouldn’t purchase again.

Great newborn nappy option

We're trying a few different nappy options with wraps for our first baby. These muslins are by far my favourite option. Easy to use, good size and nice and soft once washed a few times! A good vslue option for newborn nappies.

Excellent quality

We really love these organic muslins. We use them as burp cloths/during breastfeeding and find them to be really absorbant. They shrink a lot once washed but that's to be expected. Definitely would recommend.

Good quality but too big for small newborn
Rating:
03 March 2018  |

I like the organic, natural quality of these muslins over others I have tried, but unfortunately found them too large to get a suitable fold my small newborn baby boy. Their generous size means that it is bulky and fuddly with a lot of layers when folded to a small size. It's a pity that they aren't available in 60 or 70cm squares. They would make a good general muslin as a burp cloth, etc. however.

I agree that these are rough and I was a little surprised when I got them, having never bought muslin before. But after one wash they have fluffed up like nobody's business!

Response:

Muslin is surprisingly hard when new and unwashed but takes on a completely different feel once they've been washed and holds a huge amount of liquid for such a thin fabric. Glad you like them.

Rough

I wanted to try these muslins for their larger size to use as nappies. Unfortunately this is the roughest cotton muslin I've found and not suitable for use on delicate baby skin.

sorry to hear you didnt like the muslins. they must be prewashed at least twice and this will make the fibres expand and fluff up.
