Mother-ease Rikki Wrap Overview

Mother-ease Rikki Wrap is a Velcro fastening gussetted wrap to ensure a snug fit at the legs. The Rikki is designed to gently hug your baby and create a leak-free barrier between your babies cloth nappy and clothing! The Rikki wrap is incredibly reliable, versatile and slim which makes it a very popular wrap choice.

The Aplix hook and loop fastening Mother-ease uses on their Rikki wraps are of the highest quality and far superior to other brands. You won't find Mother-ease Velcro fastenings wearing out prematurely. Behind the Velcro a small skirt is sewn in to cover the stitches and prevent leakage that is so common to some other brands.

The Rikki wrap is made from the same fabric as the Air Flow™ Cover.

Fastening

The Mother-ease Rikki is velcro fastening to provide a snug fit and an alternative option to the Motherease airflow with poppers.

Mother-ease Rikki wrap comes in three main sizes.

  • XS Newborn 6-12lbs(trim fit)
  • Small 8-12lbs
  • Med 10-20lbs

The only thing I would say is that any Velcro wrap looks more worn at the loop Velcro after time, although the performance is not affected.

It is important to do the wings up before each wash, so the Velcro does not catch on other things. The one downside of this wrap is the lack of a Velcro “foldback laundry tabs” to protect it. I think it is a good idea to do the wrap up and turn it inside out - this stops the hook side from catching on anything, and also protects the loop side from wear and tear.

To use with

The Mother-ease Rikki is suitable over flat nappies, prefold and fitted nappies.

The Rikki wrap will hold a pad folded prefold or terries in place, for an average- to well-built child.

Just as reliable on fabric waterproofness and durability as the Mother-ease Airflo but provides a slimmer look.

Wrap Fabric

PUL - Polyurethelaminate

Care of Mother-Ease Wraps

The binding on the Mother-ease wraps are the reason they are so fabulously waterproof so it's important to treat the binding with respect and make sure it can't get caught on velcro etc in the wash.

When washing your Mother-ease wraps place them in a mesh washing bag separate from anything that could catch on the binding like Velcro to keep them in excellent and reliable condition.

Mother-ease have very specific washing detergent requirements please read our washing page so you're aware of the requirements. This usually means that the wraps have to be washed separately to your nappies.

Wraps rarely need to be tumble dried as they air dry so fast however they can occassionally be tumble dried on low in an emergency.

Mother-ease Care Guide

Initial Wash

  • Add no more than 10-12 nappies to your washer & dryer in each initial wash. Remember to check your lint screen before each wash & dry.
  • Set your washing machine to a full wash cycle with a large size load for 10-12 nappies (smaller if less nappies). Use only HOT water.
  • Add your detergent - see detergent disclaimer.
  • Line dry or machine dry the diapers on a medium heat setting.

Regular washing

  • Be sure to wash your cloth nappies at least every other day. If the soiled nappies are stored longer, run them through the initial rinse cycle and toss back into your nappy pail. (Tip - you can add 1/2 oz of laundry detergent to the rinse cycle to start cleaning sooner.)
  • Use your washing machines normal wash cycle and set the water temperature to hot. Use a large load size (for 12-18 soiled nappies + covers) and add the detergent manufacturers recommended amount of detergent. Then let the machine take care of the rest!  (Tip - running the diapers through an extra rinse creates unnecessary wear and over the 2 1/2 years of use, you will reduce the longevity of your diapers). (Tip 2 - Select your washing machines Sanitary Cycle for even hotter water if you can.)
  • Once your nappies have finished the wash cycle, it's time to dry them. You can either line or machine dry them;

Line Drying - hang to dry in your basement or outside on the line. (Tip - Sun naturally removes stains. Even works on a cold, winters day as long as the sun is out

Machine Drying - Toss in your dryer on medium heat (low for covers). (Tip - Tossing line dried diapers into your dryer for a short cycle will fluff them up but tumbling action adds additional wear)

*Coloured diapers may bleed and should be washed accordingly

Mother-ease offers a 6-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:

When washing your covers Mother-ease recommend you wash them in a mesh bag to keep them away from Velcro on your nappies and from getting caught in washing machine doors.  Always secure the Velcro on your wraps so they don't stick to the binding in the wash.
Please contact us if you think you have a faulty product and need to claim under the Mother-ease warranty. We will liaise with Mother-ease for you. Mother-ease will require any product to be returned or destroyed before a replacement.

The manufacturer may ask for proof of which detergent you have been using during the period you've had the item so we strongly recommend you keep your receipts you can prove you've been washing following the supplier's guidelines.  A photo of the detergent box and a photo of the detergent ingredients will be needed plus receipts of detergent purchases in the time you have owned the faulty nappies (usually 1 or 2 receipts showing purchases across the previous 6 months).  If you have bought Mother-ease's detergent through us during the time you've used the nappies please let us know and we'll have all your receipts already on record for you.

Mother-ease decision on any warranty claim is final.

No leaks but not as comfortable
Rating:

Cannot rate mother-ease wraps more in terms of preventing leaks. I have 2 popper ones and bought this Velcro one and have never had a spill in any. Although this one was also super cute pattern I've found the velcro let's it down a bit as my baby seems to get a mark on his belly when he wears this one, whereas he doesn't with the poppers. I've assumed it's because the velcro pushes in more especially when he's in the car seat. I still use it, but my preference is definitely the popper version.

Motherease wrap

The velcro on the wrap is a bit rough, and I worry about it scratching my baby. If I fold it carefully, the wrap is good, and the Velcro doesn't touch his skin. In general, the wrap keeps everything in, so he stays dry.

Wrap is good.

21 May 2021  |

I like the ease of the velcro, the double gusset for containment and how thin they are (especially because they don't have poppers to adjust the length of the wrap).

What I don't like is already stated in TNL's description, the velcro doesn't have fold back tabs and I worry hat the wrap won't age ver nicely. I imagine that the binding will soon look used.

Feedback to the display: When I ordered a second wrap I ordered the orange one as I thought the binding is colour matched. However when I received it, the binding was white. I ended up returning the wrap for this reason. Shame about the hassle and cost of returning the item due to a misleading picture on the product page.

Great for containing muslinz
Rating:
05 February 2021  |

We bought these to wear over folded Muzlins for our newborn. I bought XS and she is still wearing them over her bamboozle stretchies at 9lb as the S airflows still seem loose around the waist. To be honest i prefer the fit of these to the airflow, but the velcros are a pain: no matter how careful you try to be its impossible not to catch the binding with the velcro sometimes. Containment was brilliant - I think we only had one poo leak out the legs when over the muslinz (which were themselves very leaky so the wrap was often doing the heavy lifting on containment) and no wee leaks that weren't due to bad fitting.

The best wrap

The motherease Riki wraps are the best ones in our stash we use them with muslinz on our 8 week old boy and we very rarley get a leak! Would definitely recommend them, it's just a shame the prints aren't as nice as some of the other nappies on the market.

Easy to wash but causes red marks
Rating:
03 November 2020  |

I use the Riki and air flow wraps with Terry squares, both are easy to wash and air dry v fast Which I find super helpful! I would highly recommend the air flow over the Riki as have found on both my newborn and 2yr that the Riki causes red marks around the legs and occasionally although I try to be careful with the position the Velcro has rubbed their tummy’s and caused a nasty scratch, my toddler now points to this one and says ouch! But he is happy to wear the air flow wrap. The Velcro is also a faff to do up before putting in the wash to ensure it doesn’t catch on the Terry squares!

Good coverage

These are so cute and they do hold everything in for my heavy wetter overnight. I hate that there are no tabs for the very strong velcro - they’re very destructive in the wash if you’re not super careful and it’s just faff to take the inner nap out and then fasten the cover closed. I much prefer my TotsBots Peenut covers, which also contain the smell better.

Good quality

13 September 2019  |

Bought these to try with a newborn, using muslins as nappies, and Tots Bots Bamboozles at night. I found them really thin and lightweight, so not bulky or “crunchy” as I’d expected (new to reusables!) which meant they seemed really comfy and fitted really well. Compared to some others we’ve tried I think they are much better quality, nice and flexible, easy to use with very few leakages. Would definitely recommend even though they are a little more expensive. Beware of Velcro when washing though!

If I had to choose I prefer airflow purely because they don't catch on my bamboo nappies in the wash, but these are still great wraps, and the only thing (in XL) big enough to fit over an Ella's house size 3!

Rikki wraps
Rating:
22 June 2019  |

I purchased the motherease rikki wraps and also the motherease airflow wraps to see which I prefer. I actually prefer the airflow wraps. I don’t like the velcro on these as it constricts my babies movement - it’s hard for him to bend! Whereas the airflow wraps have stretchy elastic around the middle with poppers and is much more comfortable for him. Having said that though, I’ve never had a leak with either wraps

My baby was under 5lb when I brought him home so he didn't fit the cloth nappies we bought. TNL recommended these over muslins. No leaks after 4 weeks use. Only thing is they're huge on him and restrict movement. Down to his knees and up to his chest. Could do with an xxs or making them less long. Width ok

18 February 2019  |

I bought one of these wraps and one airflow to see which I liked best. Although both are leak proof (for us anyway) these are easier to put on; however, there are no laundry tabs and the velcro sticks to EVERYTHING in the wash. Because of this I think I’d go for an airflow in future.

Love the rikki wrap!

08 February 2019  |

I recently purchased the large rikki wrap for my daughter who is long for her age and very wet at night. I found this wrap really good in being large enough to fit comfortably with added overnight absorbency. It works really well with the sandys or inserts from a two piece system with plenty of room for soakers!

Great fit over Motherease One Size nappies. So glad I managed to get hold of the old prints. I can’t get enough of Mermaid and Palm bottoms!
Only wish Rikki came in poppers as they are the only Velcro in my stash and my helpers don’t always do them up for washing.

Really reliable
Rating:
06 December 2018  |

I've used these over muslins, terries and bamboozles, and they cover all those the nappies well. They are really well waterproofed and I also love the bright colours - they look great on my little one's bum!
The only downside is the velcro - it catches on everything, including the webbing on the seams, which means that the soft edges can lose their softness quite quickly.

Good waterproofing
Rating:
28 November 2018  |

Very good waterproofing far far better than any other wrap I’ve tried (I have quite a few)
Look of nappy rather large though.
Easy to fit
No laundry tabs so the Velcro sticks to the webbing on the seams causing damage as you are trying to put the wrap in the toddler or sticks to the other nappies in the wash.
The pattern makes identification of possible poo stains at the seams difficult!

20 November 2018  |

These wraps are amazing for containment. We had a couple of issues with our daughter's skinny legs when she was very tiny, but managed to stop the leg leaks with a bit of experimentation with fit. Only issue is ensuring that the velcro is done up before washing to ensure that it doesn't snag everything else.

Reliable but prefer Airflow wrap for young baby
Rating:
03 September 2018  |

I use these a lot during the daytime with Bumbles or Disana cotton nappies. They are very reliable and fit nicely. The only downside for me is that I found the velcro fastening a little stiff when my baby was very small, and was worried that it would be uncomfortable and irritate the skin. I now use the medium size and they seem to be comfortable enough on my now 18 month-old. I prefer the Airflow wrap for night time and small babies.

Fab night time wrap

03 September 2018  |

I bought the motherease rikki wrap to go over our bamboozle stretchies to use overnight on the recommendation from the nappy lady. I've not been disappointed, despite the bamboozle being soaked through come the morning there's been no leaking at all. With the bamboozle and booster and wrap my little one has quite a bulky bottom but it doesn't restrict her movement or bother her at all. Fab wrap, great recommendation from the nappy lady.

Motherease wraps
Rating:
24 July 2018  |

Absolutely love these wraps. They have keep our little one so comfortable even in this crazy 2 month heat wave we are having.
Containment is great too. The velcro is even Comfortable. One middle of the night hazy happy change I didn't line the velcro vastening up correctly meaning it was running on our babies skin for the rest of the night. However it left only the smallest mark which disappeared within 10 minutes of removal.
Some other wraps I find aren't very breathable and can smell, especially in heat. However these do not at all. They wash and dry very well either in a 60 degree wash or just hand washing.
I will be using these wraps above all other from now on.
We have used them alongside the little lamb microfiber fitted nappies and the bambinex bamboo fitted nappies. Both of these have excelled our expectations on ease of use. Containment and comfort. So much so I am starting to use them in the day and night now. Originally I was using pocket systems in the day, but much prefer these.

It's okay...

Bought one of these to use with the Bambinex Teddys. Fits well and fairly easy to use. Very quick drying. However it does not have laundry tabs so you have to make sure the velcro is fastened and turned inside out for washing. The border/edging material keeps catching the velcro causing it to fray a little in places, so you need to be careful when using.

Overall, prefer other wraps.

Velcro rubs but good containment
Rating:
29 June 2018  |

Bought the small size for my newborn, and it fitted very well from day 1 (born at 7lb 10). Excellent containment of breastfed poo and fitted well over a range of newborn and size 1 nappies. However at 10.5lb they are now too small, I can barely do them up and they started rubbing her tummy much earlier.

I also have the large for my 2 year old son and don't find Velcro rubs on him, although he is only 28lb and already this wrap seems a bit small.

I personally prefer the Airflow Wrap

Great wrap for going over a fitted nappy like the bamboozles or little lambs. Gives a nice fit around even skinny thighs. Only downside for us is the lack of laundry tabs means the velcro gets stuck to stuff in the wash as the nappy has to be done up instead. Not sure how this will affect its longevity but with a cool looking early design we are enjoying it for the moment!

Bought this and a Motherease Airflow to try over little lamb sized nappies. The airflow wins marginally as poppers are a tiny bit less bulky/he possibly has more movement on his tummy -and for some reason I never can decide if I have the velcro at the right tightness -but I think that's just me! Overall great! No leaks, easy clean, easy to use, would happily buy again.

Very good containment even for heavy wetter. Nice slim fit and attractive designs. The velcro does sometimes rub on LO's stomach if not attached low enough and can be tight around the legs even though she is skinny (could be incorrectly fitted on my part). Perfect with Little Lambs sized Prefolds. I use during daytime

Good cover in terms of containment (never failed) but I found the Velcro was too close to the edge of the nappy and too thick so it often rubbed on my baby’s tummy. The thick Velcro makes them a little too rigid which I think could be uncomfortable.

Easy, velcro can scratch
Rating:
03 November 2017  |

These are easy to use and are now starting to fit baby well (they were too big on him at 10lb). Because the Velcro is very close to the edge of the wrap, if you're not careful baby can get scratched by overhanging Velcro. I've not had that problem with out wraps. It's avoidable—just have to be more careful when putting them on.

The cover is good and I haven't got leaks so far, but the velcro has given me problems. It opens during the washing and entangles with other stuff. Also, when it is in use, the bit of velcro that gets exposed is quite harsh on baby skin, so sometimes I find irritation around that area.
