Motherease Airflow Wraps

Brand:  Motherease
Fastening:  Poppers
Made In:  Canada

Motherease Airflow is a popper fastening PUL (polyurethene laminate) wrap that is leak proof but refuses to compromise on breathability! The fabric is soft, durable and waterproof.

Sizes

The Motherease airflow comes in 6 sizes but most people only need 2-3 sizes birth to potty.

XS 6-12lbs (trim cut)*
Small 6-12lbs*
Medium 10-20lbs
Med/Large 20-27lbs (trimmer cut than Large)
Large 20-35lbs
XL 35lbs+

*Note that the XS/Small sizes poppers towards the front for ease of use when changing a small baby, whereas the larger sizes popper towards the back.

The Medium/Large (20-27lbs) size covers the lower end of the Large Air Flow size range (20-35lbs). This is because the Large feels very baggy when a slim child has outgrown a Medium and the Medium/Large is intended for those who like a trimmer fit. Obviously it adds an extra size of wraps in, which pushes the price up, but that might not be so important for you.

One time when the M/L wrap is a very good choice is when a child of around 15lbs switches to cloth. Instead of getting 4 medium wraps which will be quite quickly outgrown, you could opt for 2 Medium, 2 M/L and 2 Large, to bridge the gap nicely.

What's So Special about the Air Flow?

The poppers are at the legs and waist on each side, and there are a number of different settings. Because of the separate leg and waist fastening, it has excellent adjustability for the child whose legs and waist are not in perfect proportion to each other. With a Velcro wrap, if your child has thin legs but a fat waist, the wrap may have to be closed too tightly at the waist to give sufficient containment at the legs, or vice versa. This is not the case with the Air Flow wrap.

The airflow is secured with adjustable poppers at the waist and legs openings and has an air ventilation system between the poppers. This allows for maximum air circulation as baby moves, reducing the risk of bacteria by keeping the temperature of the cloth nappy down. The ventilation system makes it the most breathable PUL wrap on the market by far. You think it somehow “ought” to leak, but I can assure you it doesn’t. Very cunning design.

Another advantage of the Air Flow is that the side-positioning of the poppers makes it virtually childproof! The trouble with Velcro-fastenings, as with disposable nappies, is that your child can easily undo them - and the tougher the Velcro, the more tempting it is for them. You can almost hear them saying “Look, Mummy, a toy on my tummy...” Not all children are manic un-fasteners, but if you have one of those, you’ll find popper wraps a far less frustrating option, unless you want your child to wear dungarees on a permanent basis!

As the poppers are at the side of the wrap it is perfect for children with sensitive skin as there is no velcro to catch or snag on. For tummy sleepers there are no poppers at the front of the nappy to press into their skin either!

There are no gussets in the wrap which makes the legs holes larger than on other wraps. The legs holes of the airflow are designed to be LOOSE and not fitted snug to the skin. This is again to make the nappy more breathable but also so little legs on the move don't get chaffed. The airflow is especially good for chubby legs allowing them plenty of room.

Why does it look like "granny pants?"

It is a very baggy wrap, in comparison with Velcro-fastening wraps, and some people don’t like the “puffball” look. However, that’s one of the reasons why it is so reliable, because there is plenty of room between nappy and wrap, minimising the risk of wicking due to a bit of the nappy sticking out anywhere. That’s also one reason why it is an excellent wrap over the bulkiest of night nappies and the best wrap over traditional terry squares.

What nappies can the airflow be used over?

The airflow is pretty much a universal wrap and can be used over virtually every modern shaped nappy.  However because there is no gusset at the legs, the Air Flow is not suitable over prefolds or other fasten-free/ pad folded nappies .... normally. I have known people use it with pad folded prefolds successfully, but only on pretty solidly-built children, because they fill the wrap so much more! It certainly won’t work with your average or skinny child.

Washable at 60 with the nappies, you can also tumble dry it on cool, although to be honest give it a good shake and hang it over a chair, and it will be dry within a few minutes anyway.

The Air Flow wraps I have used on my children have now been in use for 9 years and I have not had a single one ever fail or break.   So reliable on both waterproofing and containment, flexible on fit, childproof, washable at 60 and can be tumble dried .... what do you mean, this wrap is not for you?!!...

Really works well for keeping moisture in the nappy so clothes stay dry even when nappy is really wet. Only negative is my bubs legs are a bit slim (despite her being over 7lbs) so thereís a gap there and Iíve had leakage from time to time

Loving this wrap!
Wednesday, 9 May 2018  |

It looks a bit puffy but fits my nearly 2 year old really well. I use the wrap over flat terry nappies (single or doubled for bed time) and tots bots bamboozle. Love the adjustable poppers, they wash and dry well and so far been the only brand that hasn't leaked! Must buy more!!!!

Looks massive but works well!
Friday, 6 April 2018  |

I bought three of these in the small size to use on my newbor with teddy size 1, bimbles and folded muslins. The wraps work well with all of them, but they do look massive on my 4kg newborn! I think the rikki does give a slightly better fit, but the popper are easier to wash

Motherease airflow wraps

So happy with the motherease airflow wraps. Finally, I've found a completely leak proof night time solution! I use a bamboozle stretch with a charcoal booster underneath the wrap. In the morning my 1 year is totally dry. Before using the wrap I tried variations of nappies and wraps, which always leaked. I had to keep returning to disposables at night. Wonderful I can now be a fully cloth user!

GREAT PROTECTION AND LOOKS CUTE
Thursday, 5 April 2018  |

I was a bit unsure of poppers but had heard great things about motherease. I shouldn't of worried. My little boy has not leaked in these once and I use them a lot. He has less marking in them too. Whilst they look baggy they look cute and are super efficient.

Finally solved our morning compression leaks. Was using tots bots wraps over a bamboozle which were fine but once little one hit 10 months they just weren't coping. These things are amazing combined with the sandy stay dry boosters. No more wet pyjamas!! Would recommend to everyone.

No more leaks!
Tuesday, 6 February 2018  |

A little different to put on than other wraps I've tried but it works, no more leaks! The material of these (particularly around the elastic parts) sticks quite easily to Velcro tabs on nappies so I wash them in a delicates wash bag. I use them on an 18mo and as part of the bundle. We love them so much, our washing has reduced from all the wet bedding and we're all getting more sleep! Thank you

I bought these on recommendation from the nappy lady as my son (22mo) was leaking out of his night nappies. I've been really impressed as we've had no leaks at all. Just bought another one and wish I'd bought these to begin with, but to be honest the price had put me off.

We currently only have one for night time but I'm planning on getting more. No leaks at night, no red marks because the adjustable poppers makes it easy to get the fit right and my 9 month old cannot undo it like he can with Velcro! Used with tots bots bamboozle stretchies.

Saturday, 9 December 2017  |

I've not got any comparison except the other motherease wrap which is Velcro fastening, but love this. It's so simple to put on, does the job with no leaks (and my baby is a heavy wetter), presses on his tummy less than the Velcro as there is less bulk(he's had tummy problems so this is a real plus) , is easy to wash- can't think of any negatives. What's not to like!

I have just ordered a second one of these after having had my first for a couple of months. It has lasted through the night every time I have used it. It's made from a nice thin material which I think is more comfortable for my baby than some of the bulkier ones.
Thank you Nappy Lady

Mmotherease wraps
Monday, 4 December 2017  |

I bought these wraps to try to get some more use out of a set of extremely well used little lamb nappies. The nappies themselves have lost all elasticity and the original wraps were pretty useless (they had served child 1 and 2 very well) . Well these wraps have certainly done the job. They are bomb proof! I don't think we have had any leaks at all since using these. The look great, fit great, launder well and most importantly keep everything where it should be. Thank you. Excellent service from the nappy lady too , and great reviews which help me make the right choice.

Motherease Airflow
Saturday, 18 November 2017  |

This is the best wrap in the market in my opinion and I'm back buying more for my 3rd baby, 5 years on. I only had the smaller sizes for my previous kids but after getting frustrated with wicking (!!!!) and poor fit from other wraps in the market I decided to get rid of the other ladies and only use Motherease. Rikki is very good too and the Velcro is THE BEST but my baby has super chubby thighs with relatively unchubby belly so I find Airflow offers wider range of fit.

I like the popper version that fasten around the side as most nappies fasten at the front so it prevents extra bulk in the front.

Love this wrap - it's large and easy to fit over a cloth nappy. Love the different popper settings as we seem to need middle for leg but slimmest round tummy. No wet wicking around the seams even after big wees. So glad to have invested in a few of these. Cute wetlands pattern too!

They really are the best
Monday, 11 September 2017  |

I've tried a few PUL wraps, but I must say these are hands down, the best. All the others wick around the legs eventually; these never do, even with a saturated night nappy underneath. They are bulkier than many others, but I am happy to buy trousers a bit bigger if it means they aren't getting leaks on them!

Tuesday, 22 August 2017  |

Brilliant wrap - recommended for us for our tall chunky bummed little boy by the nappy lady. We use over Little Lamb terry shaped nappys, there's always plenty of room for an extra booster if we are baby wearing a lot that day for a bit of extra absorbency and we've not had any compression leaks since using these. Highly recommended!

We got this based on the nappy lady's recommendation. We were using disposables at night because we never got the hang of night nappies, but then they started leaking too, so we filled in the questionnaire, and followed the nappy lady's advice and bought one of these, a bambinex and a bamboozle to try at night, and we haven't had a leak since. Can't thank the nappy lady enough for taking the time to email with me and answer what probably were dumb questions

Very soft
Monday, 22 May 2017  |

We predominantly use these at night with little lambs bamboo nappies. As we live in a country with very hot and humid summers I hope to try them in the day over a lighter nappy to allow a bit of air to circulate.
We got M size and have used them from 2 months of age. He's 4 months now and about 15 pounds and there is still plenty of room.
Although we mostly use them at night we bought two and I am glad we did as the fabric has a kind of soft velvety textured fabric on the outside and the edge seems are also covered by a soft elasticated plastic piping which tends absorb a very minute amount of urine meaning at least a rinse after use is in order to prevent a subtle odor. The other good thing with using a wrap is while you change it provides a wonderful waterproof mat that on a few occasions has caught a 'live' poo on its way out of our little baby.

I love the material of these wraps they seem really special. My baby had a skinny waist and very chubby legs so these are perfect as the poppers can be adjusted on waist and legs. They go over muslins, terry towels and the motherease nappies really well and I've hardly ever had any leaks (especially with motherease nappies leaks are virtually unheard of). They dry quickly and wash well some of mine look a little tired but they're just as effective, they are quite expensive but don't need replacing once you have them.

A bit hit and miss on leaks
Wednesday, 3 May 2017  |

I'm lucky in that my little boy does looooong sleeps- have found these can leak if he sleeps in. Previously had the smaller size and they didn't leak till they were a bit too small so a little disappointed with these. Also none of his pyjamas fit well over them!!

Response:

If you're getting leaks with a motherease wrap then you should look at the nappy not having enough absorbency as motherease wraps are perfect. A wrap can only keep the wetness inside if there is something to absorb it. Add some boosters in over night and you'll be back to dry night.

This was the perfect thing to stop my heavy wetter from leaking at night! I use a totsbots bamboozle with a peenut pad booster, and now with this airflow wrap on top, no more wicking onto his clothes no matter how wet the diaper gets! They really do look like granny pants, so not my favorite for day, but the "airflow" really makes them superb for overnight. Love love love it!

These are the main wraps I use. I i Use over terry nappies, over old all in one hand me down nappies to double protect, and even with the occasional disposable when my little one was small and she had a tendency to 'explode up the back' when in disposables. Dry quickly, if get a little damp when worn can be reused after a quick hand rinse and left to dry, for In between nappy machine washes. Nice and loose, not tight on the legs and still in excellent condition after a year.

Leakproof, reduces smelly overnight nappies
Monday, 26 December 2016  |

Just bought one to test this wrap but will definitely be buying more. The design is ingenious, avoiding leaks and keeping the nappy "fresher" - our milovia wraps also never leak overnight but the bamboozle is often pretty stinky by the morning. This wrap has improved that considerably. Another bonus is how quickly they dry - I've often just rinsed it in the sink and hung it up to dry rather than putting it in the wash every time, as it's pretty much pure PUL with a bit of elastic edging.
