Motherease Airflow Wraps

Brand:  Motherease
Fastening:  Poppers
Made In:  Canada

Motherease Airflow is a popper fastening PUL (polyurethene laminate) wrap that is leak proof but refuses to compromise on breathability! The fabric is soft, durable and waterproof.

Sizes

The Motherease airflow comes in 6 sizes but most people only need 2-3 sizes birth to potty.

XS 6-12lbs (trim cut)*
Small 6-12lbs*
Medium 10-20lbs
Med/Large 20-27lbs (trimmer cut than Large)
Large 20-35lbs
XL 35lbs+

*Note that the XS/Small sizes poppers towards the front for ease of use when changing a small baby, whereas the larger sizes popper towards the back.

The Medium/Large (20-27lbs) size covers the lower end of the Large Air Flow size range (20-35lbs). This is because the Large feels very baggy when a slim child has outgrown a Medium and the Medium/Large is intended for those who like a trimmer fit. Obviously it adds an extra size of wraps in, which pushes the price up, but that might not be so important for you.

One time when the M/L wrap is a very good choice is when a child of around 15lbs switches to cloth. Instead of getting 4 medium wraps which will be quite quickly outgrown, you could opt for 2 Medium, 2 M/L and 2 Large, to bridge the gap nicely.

What's So Special about the Air Flow?

The poppers are at the legs and waist on each side, and there are a number of different settings. Because of the separate leg and waist fastening, it has excellent adjustability for the child whose legs and waist are not in perfect proportion to each other. With a Velcro wrap, if your child has thin legs but a fat waist, the wrap may have to be closed too tightly at the waist to give sufficient containment at the legs, or vice versa. This is not the case with the Air Flow wrap.

The airflow is secured with adjustable poppers at the waist and legs openings and has an air ventilation system between the poppers. This allows for maximum air circulation as baby moves, reducing the risk of bacteria by keeping the temperature of the cloth nappy down. The ventilation system makes it the most breathable PUL wrap on the market by far. You think it somehow “ought” to leak, but I can assure you it doesn’t. Very cunning design.

Another advantage of the Air Flow is that the side-positioning of the poppers makes it virtually childproof! The trouble with Velcro-fastenings, as with disposable nappies, is that your child can easily undo them - and the tougher the Velcro, the more tempting it is for them. You can almost hear them saying “Look, Mummy, a toy on my tummy...” Not all children are manic un-fasteners, but if you have one of those, you’ll find popper wraps a far less frustrating option, unless you want your child to wear dungarees on a permanent basis!

As the poppers are at the side of the wrap it is perfect for children with sensitive skin as there is no velcro to catch or snag on. For tummy sleepers there are no poppers at the front of the nappy to press into their skin either!

There are no gussets in the wrap which makes the legs holes larger than on other wraps. The legs holes of the airflow are designed to be LOOSE and not fitted snug to the skin. This is again to make the nappy more breathable but also so little legs on the move don't get chaffed. The airflow is especially good for chubby legs allowing them plenty of room.

Why does it look like "granny pants?"

It is a very baggy wrap, in comparison with Velcro-fastening wraps, and some people don’t like the “puffball” look. However, that’s one of the reasons why it is so reliable, because there is plenty of room between nappy and wrap, minimising the risk of wicking due to a bit of the nappy sticking out anywhere. That’s also one reason why it is an excellent wrap over the bulkiest of night nappies and the best wrap over traditional terry squares.

What nappies can the airflow be used over?

The airflow is pretty much a universal wrap and can be used over virtually every modern shaped nappy.  However because there is no gusset at the legs, the Air Flow is not suitable over prefolds or other fasten-free/ pad folded nappies .... normally. I have known people use it with pad folded prefolds successfully, but only on pretty solidly-built children, because they fill the wrap so much more! It certainly won’t work with your average or skinny child.

Washable at 60 with the nappies, you can also tumble dry it on cool, although to be honest give it a good shake and hang it over a chair, and it will be dry within a few minutes anyway.

The Air Flow wraps I have used on my children have now been in use for 9 years and I have not had a single one ever fail or break.   So reliable on both waterproofing and containment, flexible on fit, childproof, washable at 60 and can be tumble dried .... what do you mean, this wrap is not for you?!!...

I use these alongside the sandys nappies. These are perfect for my 11 week old who has skinny legs and a wide tummy, much easier to get a good fit than with the rikki wraps where I struggle to get a good fit around the legs without it being too tight round his tummy. Have contained a few explosive poos as well!

They give a bubble like shape but once dressed you don’t notice.

Has been a lifesaver!

I bought a few of these to go over nappies that are losing their waterproofing and have not been disappointed. My little boy went through a week of poosplosions after a bad cold (the type where you've only got 30 seconds to get baby to the bath once it's erupted) and these Motherease Airflow wraps were bombproof, saving a lot of laundry and carpet clearups! We love these and will probably invest in a few more soon.

Great wraps

Find these better than the velcro, they don't leave marks on my daughters skin. Good containment. Only doen side is that I find they do become a bit smelly as the day progresses, think this is because the wet nappy is against it.

Best wraps we’ve used
Saturday, 10 November 2018  |

Have used size M over size 1 Little Lambs. They have been great. Only downside was that we haven’t had quite as much use out of the medium as I’d have liked as my little girl has really chunky legs.

These are good, but I very much disagree that they are suitable for 35lb+. My boy is 15kg (33lb) and by the time you have added a booster for night time, we are on the loosest setting already. We’re going to have to try thinner boosters, but I don’t know what we’ll use if he out-grows these.

Great fit & containment
Thursday, 8 November 2018  |

Unlike many other brands, these actually seem to fit the full weight range stated. The XS fit our newborn from birth (just under 7 lbs) and at 10 lbs he is still on the smaller waist and middle leg settings so it should continue to fit him for several more weeks. It really helps to be able to adjust waist and legs separately. The only leaks we have had were due to user error (when we first started needing boosters my husband didn't realise he needed to check it wasn't sticking out anywhere). Very liquidy newborn poo has been no match for these wraps, even when a little has escaped the nappy underneath. The XS has a nice trim fit and fits well over our XS Sandies, size 1 Little Lambs and size 0 Bimbles. The M fits well over the S Sandies and size 1 Bimbles.

Really good containment and love how it fits for such a long time. I actually got a size bigger than I needed so that I wouldn't have to buy again but still were completely protective. No leaks, except a tiny amountwhen my daughter does her "I haven't pood in three days poo" no nappy in the world can contain that!

GREAT Solution to our Leaking Problem!
Sunday, 23 September 2018  |

My son is 7 and has special needs and the nappies provided to us do not hold in the wetness very well. We were continuously changing clothes and bedding. These work GREAT and are adjustable and I love that they don't have velcro to ruin other things in the wash. I only ordered one to try but am online ordering more right now! Thank you!

Success with these easy to use wraps
Saturday, 8 September 2018  |

These wraps are great! Can get a nice fit as three options for poppers on each leg hole and various options at the waist also. I can honestly say we have never had a poo leak with an airflow wrap. They are coping well with baby no2 explosive breastfed poo. The only time we have had pee leaks is with operator error (not making sure the nappy is inside the wrap completely) or if baby has out-peed the nappy.

We use mostly motherease sandys (size small) underneath which are also bombproof. For nighttime we use a booster little lamb or totsbots bamboozle and also had great success with the airflow wrap. We have never had to explore or consider another option.

We purchased medium airflow wraps which fitted our slender daughter from around 12lb (before that she was in the small airflow size). She is now 23lb and still fits them.

All in all a superb wrap

Response:

Sorry to hear you're not getting on with your Motherease airflow wrap this is really unusaual. We'd love to help you use them better. Drop us a email with some photos of your baby and let us know which nappy you're using underneath. Red marks are a key sign you're putting the wrap on too tight. Loosen it off as it's designed to be loose.

Leave red marks on legs
Friday, 13 July 2018  |

My boy is quite skinny, especially his legs, so the last thing i expected were quite painful looking bright red marks on his legs. Due to bulkiness of multilayered nappy its impossible to get closer into the crease of the leg and groin. Loosening poppers means its too loose and leaks. Wanted so much to like these as everyone recommends them but theyre just not working for us right now

Friday, 6 July 2018  |

These are great. My 18 mth old had got too big for the smaller size without me realising and was wet in the mornings but, following nappy lady advice, I got these and they’re perfect. Good fit (though can’t speak for how they’ll be doing in 6+ months...) and very effective. I like the poppers as opposed to Velcro too - do better with washing and baby is less inclined to open them herself!

Not as amazing as expected!
Saturday, 16 June 2018  |

Going to be controversial and say I don’t love this wrap as much as I expected to and find peenut wraps are currently more ‘bombproof’. I’m reserving total judgement as my son is right on the lower weight limit and so the containment might improve as he gets bigger. I am about to give terries a try and can see this being a good wrap for them due to the roominess. I find the side fastening a bit more fiddly and it’s been where leaks have occurred (but that may be down to the shaped nappy underneath as well!). The designs also aren’t massively to my taste, but that isn’t the most importang thing when choosing a wrap (just a bonus).

So far no leaks and comfy fit
Tuesday, 5 June 2018  |

Got these as we started getting leaks from a different brand and they are really good. The fit is quite wide but since we only use them as night nappies it is ok. They fit nice and comfy on our 5 month old, no leaks, and there is less smell in the morning due to the airflow gaps.

Worth the hype
Monday, 28 May 2018  |

After hearing much about Motherease wraps I decided to try a couple. They seem to be really thin and light but definitely bomb-proof. As mentioned in the description they do give a bit of a granny pants look and appear very poofy around the front on my girls but in terms of containment it fits the bill.

Marked my sons legs something rotton
Friday, 25 May 2018  |

Bought this for night time use only. Now yes, they contained everything every time - actually bomb proof.

But I could never recommend you get one. They marked my son something rotton, I tried doing them looser, I made sure it was on right. And every time I used it he ended up with more than sock marks on his little legs. The marks took 24-72 hours to leave. After exhausting all the ways to keep this wrap I gave up and bought a different wrap for night time.

Really works well for keeping moisture in the nappy so clothes stay dry even when nappy is really wet. Only negative is my bubs legs are a bit slim (despite her being over 7lbs) so there’s a gap there and I’ve had leakage from time to time

I bought three of these in the small size to use on my newbor with teddy size 1, bimbles and folded muslins. The wraps work well with all of them, but they do look massive on my 4kg newborn! I think the rikki does give a slightly better fit, but the popper are easier to wash

So happy with the motherease airflow wraps. Finally, I've found a completely leak proof night time solution! I use a bamboozle stretch with a charcoal booster underneath the wrap. In the morning my 1 year is totally dry. Before using the wrap I tried variations of nappies and wraps, which always leaked. I had to keep returning to disposables at night. Wonderful I can now be a fully cloth user!

A little different to put on than other wraps I've tried but it works, no more leaks! The material of these (particularly around the elastic parts) sticks quite easily to Velcro tabs on nappies so I wash them in a delicates wash bag. I use them on an 18mo and as part of the bundle. We love them so much, our washing has reduced from all the wet bedding and we're all getting more sleep! Thank you

I've not got any comparison except the other motherease wrap which is Velcro fastening, but love this. It's so simple to put on, does the job with no leaks (and my baby is a heavy wetter), presses on his tummy less than the Velcro as there is less bulk(he's had tummy problems so this is a real plus) , is easy to wash- can't think of any negatives. What's not to like!

I bought these wraps to try to get some more use out of a set of extremely well used little lamb nappies. The nappies themselves have lost all elasticity and the original wraps were pretty useless (they had served child 1 and 2 very well) . Well these wraps have certainly done the job. They are bomb proof! I don't think we have had any leaks at all since using these. The look great, fit great, launder well and most importantly keep everything where it should be. Thank you. Excellent service from the nappy lady too , and great reviews which help me make the right choice.

Motherease Airflow
Saturday, 18 November 2017  |

This is the best wrap in the market in my opinion and I'm back buying more for my 3rd baby, 5 years on. I only had the smaller sizes for my previous kids but after getting frustrated with wicking (!!!!) and poor fit from other wraps in the market I decided to get rid of the other ladies and only use Motherease. Rikki is very good too and the Velcro is THE BEST but my baby has super chubby thighs with relatively unchubby belly so I find Airflow offers wider range of fit.
