The Sandy's are one of the best loved, most absorbent 'fitteds' available on the market. An industry leader, the Sandy's was the very first nappy to sport the front over back side closure design. The style and fit of the Sandy’s is similar to that of a disposable nappy.

A full set of high tech, never fail, elastics both in the waist front and waist back and at the leg openings ensures all bowel movements will remain contained, no matter the consistency. These little gems close at the sides using plastic snaps with a front over back design.

Sandy’s by Motherease are popper fastening slim nappies available in 4 sizes and come in natural cotton terry or bamboo fabrics.

Fabrics

Cotton Terry

This terry is specially knit with only cotton touching your baby’s delicate skin, polyester is knit into the base of the fabric to provide strength, durability and shrinkage control. The result is a very stretchy, comfortable and reliable product. Cotton terry is Motherease's most durable fabric.

Bamboo Terry

This terry fabric is specially knit with 70% Bamboo / 30% Cotton touching your baby’s delicate skin. Polyester is knit into the base of the fabric to provide strength, durability and shrinkage control. Our Bamboo Terry is available in its natural unbleached finish. The bamboo used in our yarn is a man made fiber using the viscose process. It is made from organically grown bamboo and the factory producing it follows strict environmental standards (ISO14001:2004) as well as employee health standards (OHSAS18001:1999). This yarn has been tested free of harmful substances according to Oeko Tex Standard 100 for baby articles.

Sizes

  • X-Small (newborn), 6-12lbs (used with XS Motherease rikki wrap ONLY)
  • Small, 8-20lbs
  • Large, 20-35lbs
  • Toddlease, 35lbs+

The XS (newborn) size of the Sandy’s allows you to use them from 6lbs approximately and is ideal if planning on using from birth. However the weight range of this size of nappy only goes up to 12lbs meaning you would need to purchase another set of small sized nappies before moving onto the large size. It therefore makes more financial sense to stick to a two sized system by starting with the small size suitable from 8-18lbs approximately and then moving onto the large size (18-35lbs).

The stretch terry fabric and popper fastenings mean that some people like to use it as a trainer pull-up pant but with the added advantage of the full absorbency of a proper nappy. Many children are potty trained before reaching 35lbs and so will not need the Toddlease size of nappy. If however you do have a larger child the ToddleEase; which is another name for an XL Sandys, is suitable for children over 35lbs and when boosted makes a fantastic and reliable night nappy as well.

I haven't used these yet but they're so soft and look really easy to use - they'll be perfect for the other half to use whilst I go for folding terrys!

Great for nighttime potty training

We are using the bamboo Toddlerease for nighttime (with a pull on wool wrap) for my 2 year old. These are perfect, they pull up and down easily for nighttime toilet trips but are also absorbent enough (with an additional hemp booster) to withstand any mega night wees without leaking.

The Sandyís shaped nappy in combination with the Riki wrap is a good variation. I use with a booster liner overnight. The nappy is fully adjustable, well made, and gives a snug fit.

Great night nappy
Wednesday, 30 August 2017  |

I use these nappies at night with a booster and a wool wrap for my little boy. He has very sensitive skin but these are so soft and never leave a mark on him (find the bamboo to be softer than the cotton ones). He is a tummy sleeper and love the fact that these popper at the side so don't dig in to him. They are very absorbant and have never had a leak since folding over the booster at the front (he sometimes soaks through a disposable nappy at night). Find them to be quite bulky though so only use for nighttime.

Good absorbency, great containment. I like the side snaps but they need getting used to. A bit bulky but doesn't restrict movement like my other big nappies. Really good fit for my tall baby. Organic cotton is nice and soft.

Great for chunky toddlers
Friday, 14 October 2016  |

Bought this nappy for our nearly 3 year old (tall and chunky) they fit really well on the smallest settings which is especially good after trying many brands which came up too tight. Will be buying more as the price is very reasonable and we gave always found Motherease wraps and nappies to be a reliable, long lasting brand

Washed out and takes ages to dry
Thursday, 23 June 2016  |

When this nappy turned up it looked adorable. Was a beautiful colour and soft and comfortable looking but bulky on, especially with a wrap on top. After one wash it looked discoloured and washed out and I really should have asked for my money back. Though it's been fine to use, it takes days to dry as the booster is sewn in and I think you'd need a tonne of these if you want your baby in cloth full time. Bottom line, bulky, washed out and not time efficient for every day use, yet comfortable, soft and does a good job of keeping mess in. I think there's better out there for the same price.

Response:

sorry you found the nappy washed out. The natural and organic cotton are not bleached so have natural cream colouring. This will fade with washing down to an off white colour. This isn't a fault it's the type of fabric. Check your detergent as if it has optical brighteners and bleaches included (many do) this will lead to fading even quicker.

Good for cloth nappy novices
Tuesday, 19 April 2016  |

I have only ever tried a couple of types of cloth nappies, and was put off because they tended to leak out the legs. However, these keep everything well contained and are easy to put on and launder. The elasticated waist is a great feature as well, especially for comfort.

The nappy is absorbent, good shape but not an ideal fit. It sits quite high and hence would need to be quite adjustable at the top as the baby grows. Mine barely has 10lbs and already I'm on the outer poppers. In addition as they are high, I need to use at least a medium wrap to cover it.

Not quite effective
Friday, 11 March 2016  |

I bought these nappies for my 20 months old boy which get really wet during night sleeps. Because of wetting a lot I used these nappies over the normal disposable nappies, which would become a little uncomfortable during the night for him. Even though with two nappies he still gets wet sometimes, also on his clothes.
Probably i will need nappies in a very strong absorbable material.

Response:

I'm sorry you've not got on with these nappies but it sounds like you're using them all wrong. The sandys nappies do not have any waterproofing in them they need a waterproof cover over the top. If you are using them OVER a disposable to catch disposable leaks then the cloth nappy will pick up the dampness but then will transfer it to clothes so you should be using a wrap such as the motherease sandys over the top.

Great nappy but could be even better
Thursday, 4 February 2016  |

I already had some cotton toddle-ease nappies and have found these to be fantastic at poo containment as well as lasting for hours, only needing to use 2 per day (with disposables at night). The bamboo ones are softer (though to be fair they're also newer); I bought them hoping they would have better absorbency but then realised that although bamboo is more absorbent, mother-ease use this fact to make the bamboo nappies thinner and still the same absorbency as cotton. By this age I am not fussed how bulky they are, especially having already used cotton, but am aware the wetting only gets more as they get bigger so was hoping these would take more!

Reliable and very absorbent
Tuesday, 24 November 2015  |

We have been using Sandy XL in combination with wool pants for over 6 month now. LO is an average sized 28 months old and is a front sleeper. He drinks at lease 200ml milk right before going to bed. And we only change his night nappy after breakfast. The nappy is boosted with two LL bamboo inserts folded in half to the front, and still feels very spacious. Sandy is more absorbent than Bamboozle and cheaper in price. It takes around 1 1/2 days to dry in my airing cupboard. I've heard sandy can see through 2-3 children easily. Overall very reliable nappy and have no issues so far.

The only nappies I'll buy
Wednesday, 6 May 2015  |

These nappies are just brilliant. They are soft, easy, adjustable, and best of all do not leak! They may not look as cute as some of the the other slimmer nappies, but I think the greater size helps keep nasties where they are meant to be. I like that they are wider than some others too which helps babies keep their hips in the correct position.

Just stocking up with these for another child as our others have been through 5! I never know why the Nappylady doesn't give a better review on absorbency as these are The Best on babies of all shapes and sizes and are nicely elasticated round the legs. Coupled with an Airflow wrap you will never have a leak with these - highly recommended indeed! Great for night with a booster.

Night time leaks solved
Monday, 6 October 2014  |

Our fairly small 18month old was waking with wet pyjamas with whatever nappy we tried her in - little lamb bamboo, bumgenius, old style motherease tried with bamboo & hemp boosters. My partner was starting to suggest she should be in disposables overnight. But these with a single bamboo booster have done the trick. They are nice and soft, seem big enough to last unlike her btp nappies which don't have much room left. Take a while to dry - Im looking forward to the heating coming on!

Excellent quality, great with Airflow wraps
Wednesday, 13 August 2014  |

For functionality I love these nappies, they fit well, the snaps are harder for toddler fingers to undo mid-nappy change than velcro (and also don't stick together in the wash), and they are very absorbent. They also last forever (especially the elastic)! I have nappies I bought new that after one child are looking worse than my second hand Sandys. So they would be a good purchase if you're planning a large family (or want to sell them on after a couple of kids).
The down sides are that although they're slim, there is more bulk at the sides which looks a bit strange under leggings and makes it harder to get non-stretchy trousers over them. Also it's hard to get wraps to fit over them - Motherease Airflow fits easily and Rikki fits well enough, though it gets harder to stretch it over as you get to the top of the weight range. The other wraps I've tried tend not to have enough coverage at the legs so they leave gaps and small wet patches.

nappies for big toddlers
Sunday, 1 September 2013  |

My son grew out of his nighttime Bumble nappies at 20 months (he's a size of an average 2 2/1 - 3 year old), so I bought Toddlease Bamboo and Natural for him. They fit very well and are easy to put on. The only disadvantages are that Bamboos take very long to dry (even in a dryer), also some mornings the nappies are so wet, that they leak through the wrap (no surprise as he still feeds at night). Overall good choice though.

Sandys
Monday, 28 January 2013  |

These make an excellent trim and absorbent nappy. I really liked using them on my slim toddler as I could get a great fit under her clothes and her movement remained unrestricted because I didn't have to excessively boost the nappy. The elastication combined with the popper fastening also allowed me to arrange the nappy slightly loosely as we got to potty training so that my daughter could pull it down and up again on her own when wanting to use the toilet. I have also had great success with Sandys when my children were babies, particularly as night nappies. They are so absorbent and have a slight gusset to contain poo explosions, ideal for babies under six months for whom poo explosions are an ever present danger! The two drawbacks I find with these is that they don't fit well under every wrap (think BG flips), due to the gussets, and they have no fleece lining, which is highly convenient in a night nappy. However, I made my own fleece liners in the shape of the nappy which have sufficed perfectly well, and there are more than enough wraps that do fit over the nappy to give users an abundance of choice.

Sandys
Friday, 25 January 2013  |

The Sandy nappy would not win any design awards, but then you are putting a wrap over it, so that's ok! I find it very absorbant (boosting) and completely bomb proof.

Plus points are the slim fit, the perfect fit around the leg, the soft fabric, good value and the fact they contain everything. My baby is only little but I imagine when he's able to start trying to pull his nappy off, the side fastenings will make this very difficult for him - another plus.
Negatives - the side fastenings makes it a bit more fiddly to fit, as it's on the hip not the front of the nappy, the drying speed is slow and they aren't the trendiest nappies!
