How is a Sandy's Dry different to cotton Sandy's nappies?

Sandys Cotton and Sandy's Dry are both made of the same natural cotton terry and are identical in their leak proof design apart from one key difference.

  • The Sandy's Dry is fully lined inside with the high tech Mother-ease Stay Dry lining.
  • The in built stay dry lining means baby will be kept dry at every part of the nappy
  • Even in hard water the liner will remain soft against the skin
  • Removes the need to use a separate nappy liner.

More about the Mother-ease Stay Dry Lining

Mother-ease do not use fleece in their reusable nappies or on nappy boosters like other brands do. Fleece slows absorption and that can cause leaks so Motherease had their own special staydry fabric created.

Mother-ease Staydry fabric is entirely different to any other staydry fabric on the market and it is made JUST for them!  Mother-ease use a specially knit fabric that creates a stay dry barrier by the weave in the fabric. It allows the wetness to easily pass through, but not back. Keeping the babies skin dry to the touch.

Another neat aspect is that they include a cooling yarn as well. This keeps the temperature inside the nappy lower - cooler for baby and reduces the growth of bacteria.

Sandys Nappies General Overview

The Sandy's fitted Nappy is world famous for its great absorbency, leak-proof design and ease of washing!

Sandy's nappies are a two part system. The Sandys is the absorbent nappy part and over the top you will need to put a separate waterproof wrap/cover. The most popular wrap to use is the Mother-ease Airflow wrap or the Mother-ease Rikki.

Sandys are one of the few fitted nappies on the market that has gentle elastics at the front and back at the waist. All round waist elastic increases containment and ensures the optimum fit. Leg openings are also fully elasticated to ensure poos remain contained no matter the consistency or poonami. Mother-ease also use the highest quality never fail elastics

Sandys fasten using poppers on the side of the nappy allow you to adjust the waist and leg settings independently making them ideal if your baby has a slim waist and chubby legs or vice versa.  The side poppers are also ideal for tummy sleepers as there is nothing to dig into baby on the front.

Sandys are a generous length and stretchy making them suitable for the vast majority of children including those taller than average or chunky monkeys.  Slimmer children fit in them well but will stay in the smaller width settings for longer.

The stretch terry fabric and popper fastenings mean that some people like to use it as a trainer pull-up pant but with the added advantage of the full absorbency of a proper nappy.

Sandy's Dry is available in  three sizes, giving you the best fit as baby grows.

  • X-Small (newborn), 6-12lbs
  • Small, 8-20lbs
  • Large, 20-35lbs

Is there an XL Sandy's Size?

Yes there is! It's called Toddle-Ease but that's really just another name for an XL Sandys. Toddle-Ease is available in original cotton Toddle-Ease and Toddle-Ease Dry. Many children are potty trained before outgrowing the large Sandys at 35lbs and so will not need the Toddlease size of nappy. If however you do have a larger child the ToddleEase; is suitable for children over 35lbs and when boosted makes a fantastic and reliable night nappy as well.

How do I use it?

With the Sandys Dry cloth nappy you do not need to add a separate nappy liner as the Sandy's Dry is fully lined. However if you prefer to have a disposable paper liner to make getting rid of poo easier you can still use this.

When you come to change the nappy you will reuse the cover and just change the inner Sandys nappy (and liner).  The Sandys nappy can also be used for night time, you will extra absorbency provided by an additional booster, the Sandys Booster is the perfect choice.

Sandys Dry nappies can be tumble dried on low but preferably air dried.

Nappy Fabric

Natural Cotton Terry- dense 85% cotton inner, 15% polyester

Liner - 100% Polyester

Mother-ease's natural fabrics contain a small percentage of polyester in the core of the fabric to give longevity. Mother ease's fabrics are custom knit specifically for them and include a poly core for shrinkage control + durability - as a natural fabric that has to endure this many washes would wear out too quickly using only 100% cotton

Sandy's Cotton without a built in staydry liner is found on it's own separate product page.

Mother-ease Care Guide

Initial Wash

  • Add no more than 10-12 nappies to your washer & dryer in each initial wash. Remember to check your lint screen before each wash & dry.
  • Set your washing machine to a full wash cycle with a large size load for 10-12 nappies (smaller if less nappies). Use only HOT water.
  • Add your detergent - see detergent disclaimer.
  • Line dry or machine dry the diapers on a medium heat setting.

Regular washing

  • Be sure to wash your cloth nappies at least every other day. If the soiled nappies are stored longer, run them through the initial rinse cycle and toss back into your nappy pail. (Tip - you can add 1/2 oz of laundry detergent to the rinse cycle to start cleaning sooner.)
  • Use your washing machines normal wash cycle and set the water temperature to hot. Use a large load size (for 12-18 soiled nappies + covers) and add the detergent manufacturers recommended amount of detergent. Then let the machine take care of the rest!  (Tip - running the diapers through an extra rinse creates unnecessary wear and over the 2 1/2 years of use, you will reduce the longevity of your diapers). (Tip 2 - Select your washing machines Sanitary Cycle for even hotter water if you can.)
  • Once your nappies have finished the wash cycle, it's time to dry them. You can either line or machine dry them;

Line Drying - hang to dry in your basement or outside on the line. (Tip - Sun naturally removes stains. Even works on a cold, winters day as long as the sun is out

Machine Drying - Toss in your dryer on medium heat (low for covers). (Tip - Tossing line dried diapers into your dryer for a short cycle will fluff them up but tumbling action adds additional wear)

*Coloured diapers may bleed and should be washed accordingly

Mother-ease offers a 6-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on our:

Please contact us if you think you have a faulty product and need to claim under the Mother-ease warranty. We will liaise with Mother-ease for you. Mother-ease will require any product to be returned or destroyed before a replacement.

The manufacturer may ask for proof of which detergent you have been using during the period you've had the item so we strongly recommend you keep your receipts you can prove you've been washing following the supplier's guidelines.  A photo of the detergent box and a photo of the detergent ingredients will be needed plus receipts of detergent purchases in the time you have owned the faulty nappies (usually 1 or 2 receipts showing purchases across the previous 6 months).  If you have bought Mother-ease's detergent through us during the time you've used the nappies please let us know and we'll have all your receipts already on record for you.

Mother-ease decision on any warranty claim is final.

My favourite nappy
20 July 2022  |

Oh my. This nappy. We LOVE it. It fits so well, its so soft, the elastic makes it feel really neat. The stay dry fabric lining is genius. It is pricey, but oh so worth it. Does take a while to dry but not as long as my other bamboo nappies.

Ticking all the Boxs as Baby Grows
27 June 2022  |

After renting a trial box for newborns, which a huge variety of nappies to try, we settled on Mother-Ease Sandys and the Air-flow wraps. It is a big investment and so fingers were tightly crossed. We got regular for daytimes and stay dry for nights. We got boosters too, which we have not really used except at night.
These nappies have been great!! Easy to use - straightforward!!
Washing has decreased the softness of the nappies over time but they are still very good.
Drying time requires a "hang out" for a few hours after coming out of the dryer.
Absolutely no regrets ...

Sandys large
03 April 2022  |

I can’t rate these highly enough, we started with some secondhand small sandys and moved onto these. The stay dry lining is amazing and makes them very soft and keeps baby totally dry. We’ve never had a leak with sandys and an airflow wrap. I just wish we’d found them for my eldest, we’ve tried quite a few different nappies over the years and these are by far the best!

A new staple!
27 March 2022  |

I'm so delighted with these. I bought them to alternate with bamboozles but now use them solely. They last all night with no leaks when used with an airflow and I love the motherease stay dry material on the inside. Will definitely be getting the next size up when the time comes!

Excellent day time fitted nappy
26 February 2022  |

Amazing nappy for my 17 month old. The large fits him perfectly on the tightest waist snaps with plenty of growing room. Looks very comfortable on him with gentle elastics . I could tell with how heavy it was after it’s prewash that it was going to be very absorbent and it was! I don’t find it any bulkier than any of our AIOs as I have to boost most of those to cope with his output anyway, in fact it looked fairly slim on the bum. The stay dry is really like no other we’ve had. My LOs skin was bone dry to the touch. Paired with an airflow it’s been a perfect daytime combo. I could imagine it may be a stretch to get a tighter fitting wrap over with the leg frills. I think if we boosted well it could last a night too. Overall great fitted nappy.

Unexpected love!
08 December 2021  |

Nappy purchased at discount as part of ambassador role. Views are my own.

I ordered the XS for my newborn as we were struggling with leaks due to other nappies not having sufficient absorbency. I’ve loved using them so much! They fit really well, look comfortable and are absorbent. I wish I’d had more of them as they’re easy to use and not particularly bulky for a two part system. Baby is 10lbs and just about to outgrow the XS.

My favourite wrap to use with these is Motherease Airflow (we’ve managed with Small). Second favourite is Petite Crown newborn.

Fantastic absorbency and so soft
17 October 2021  |

I adored sandy’s for my last child and although I didn’t technically need any for my new baby I thought they deserved a treat for a new nappy (or 5 🙈. I absolutely adore the new stay dry Sandy, they are so so soft and do not disappoint. My chunky 7 week old is a very heavy wetter as he can out pee a disposable overnight! I’ve had no trouble with the Sandy overnight with him and team it with an airflow, the two together are bomb proof. I wish they had brought these out sooner as I much prefer them to the original. I live in a very hard water area so time will tell as to whether they go a bit crunchy like the original Sandy but so far they are my favourite nappy.

Just what we needed
01 September 2021  |

So my son has sensitive skin and suffers from ezcema, his skin doesn't like any wetness on it. His day nappies are stay dry lined or pockets but we were using bamboozles overnight and his skin was suffering where the wet nappy touched his skin. We used a fleece or stay dry liner but that doesn't cover the whole nappy area. I was on the hunt for a night nappy that was stay dry lined. Also, he isn't a heavy wetter at all overnight, 14 months old and sometimes dry in the morning, other times not heavily wet. So I was reluctant to buy a hemp or super thick absorbant night nappy. These nappies came along at just the right time for us. Being cotton and not specifically night nappies they are perfect for our overnight needs. If he does wet more I will use a Sandy's dry booster but at the moment we haven't needed a booster at all. We bought a size large as my son is 19.5 pounds, it fits great and feels so soft and comfy. The frills just about fit inside a large airflow, but I've bought some xl too incase we need them.
I don't like the placement or feeling of the label on the back inside. It has rough edges and I've been tucking the label down onto the outside to get it away from his skin.
Overall, exactly what we need and I'm really pleased with ours.
