Motherease Velcro Fastening Rikki Wraps

Design:
Price:  £12.99

Brand:  Motherease
Fastening:  Velcro
Made In:  Canada

Motherease Rikki Wrap is a Velcro fastening gussetted wrap.  Motherease Rikki wrap comes in three main sizes.

The Rikki is suitable over most shaped nappies and will also hold pad folded prefolds or terries in place, for an average- to well-built child. Just as reliable on fabric waterproofness and durability as the Motherease Air Flow, this wrap is washable at 60 and can be tumble dried (although we would suggest all wraps are best air dried, to maintain performance longer).

We stock these wraps in white and the Eco Theme (TM) prints.

There are five Eco Theme prints, as shown in our picture, from left to right they are; Savanna, The Wetlands, Rainforest, Asia, Ocean. If you want to read more about them full descriptions can be found here. I particularly love the description of the Wetlands print.

The only thing I would say is that any Velcro wrap looks more worn at the loop Velcro after time, although the performance is not affected. It is important to do the wings up before each wash, so the Velcro does not catch on other things. The one downside of this wrap is the lack of a Velcro “foldback” to protect it. I think it is a good idea to do the wrap up and turn it inside out - this stops the hook side from catching on anything, and also protects the loop side from wear and tear.

Note that the Rikki also comes in an XS size, although the weight range is the same as the S. This is specifically for use either with prefolds or with the XS Sandy’s nappy, giving a particularly trim fit for a newborn.

Limited growth and did rub on occasion
Tuesday, 21 November 2017  |

I used these from 4 weeks due to C section delivery, and they don't look as though they will have much growth. They also can rub babies skin, making it red if you aren't slower and careful with how you do them up at the top. Good containment/waterproof

Good containment
Monday, 13 November 2017  |

Good cover in terms of containment (never failed) but I found the Velcro was too close to the edge of the nappy and too thick so it often rubbed on my baby’s tummy. The thick Velcro makes them a little too rigid which I think could be uncomfortable.

Paired with LLs - great
Sunday, 12 November 2017  |

Use over LLs bamboo nappies for night time. Never had a leak as long as it covers the entire nappy. Must remember to velcro it closed before wash as it tends to stick to everything. Have a large baby so will be needing size large sooner than anticipated, but still great.

Easy, velcro can scratch
Friday, 3 November 2017  |

These are easy to use and are now starting to fit baby well (they were too big on him at 10lb). Because the Velcro is very close to the edge of the wrap, if you're not careful baby can get scratched by overhanging Velcro. I've not had that problem with out wraps. It's avoidable—just have to be more careful when putting them on.

Good wrap

So far excellent and no leaks or wicking around seams. Only gave 4 stars as prefer the poppers airflow to Velcro Riki for fit. Also we had a rare poo up back incident with this but put it down to wriggles and fitter incompetence!

Great product
Friday, 18 August 2017  |

We are using this as a disposable nappy cover as we were finding that they were leaking overnight around the waistband. We have been using this for a few weeks and we have not had one nappy leak. The leg holes are very tight which is why we have given 4 stars. But does exactly what I need it to do.

Nice product but small sizing not practical
Friday, 11 August 2017  |

Good product, performed exactly as described but wish I had not bought small size as very quickly outgrown. Bulky muslin folded nappy underneath meant that fit was very snug and I was unable to use terry nappy as too bulky.

Problems with velcro
Sunday, 4 June 2017  |

The cover is good and I haven't got leaks so far, but the velcro has given me problems. It opens during the washing and entangles with other stuff. Also, when it is in use, the bit of velcro that gets exposed is quite harsh on baby skin, so sometimes I find irritation around that area.

I bought two of these after a recommendation from the nappy lady a while back. I wish I had bought them sooner as they really are the best night time wraps I've tried. Containment is excellent and there hasn't been a leak yet.

Happy I trusted The Nappy Lady!
Monday, 22 May 2017  |

These were recommended by the nappy lady. I was a bit reluctant as they were more expensive than what I was originally going to opt for and the designs aren't great but so pleased I followed the recommendation and reviews. They fit really well, we have been using since about 2 weeks and baby is now 4 months, never had a leak. The velcro fastening is good but can get caught in the washes so we always do the nappies up before putting in the machine.

Good, but a couple concerns
Thursday, 18 May 2017  |

The velcro on these feels so cheap/weak! It won't be long before my inquisitive little girl will be able to easily pull it off. It is great for containment but overall I found nothing remarkable about these. They also don't have laundry tabs which is unfortunate but not the end of the world. The fit is better than some others we've tried for my tall, chunky four month old but I still prefer TotsBots for velcro wraps and Blueberry for poppers.

Really good but airflow are better
Wednesday, 3 May 2017  |

The colours and material are really gorgeous and they are extremely effective when used with muslins, terry towels and motherease nappies however I found that the airflow (poppers instead of Velcro) are better at making sure none of the nappy sticks out, which is particularly important when using muslins and terrys. Make sure you fasten the Velcro before you wash it or you'll get it stuck to other stuff in the machine and the Velcro is so strong it will damage and pull anything else that it might stick to, including the edges of the wrap itself. Kind of annoying that the edges of the wrap become stuck to the Velcro but small complaint. I think these are great when the baby is really tiny because even the xs airflow were too big for my little girl when she was a month old whereas the Velcro fastening let's you get it on a tiny baby but once they're not newborn I wouldn't use anything other than the airflow, better fit and better containment than the rikki and you don't need to remember to fasten before you wash!

Could be better
Wednesday, 26 April 2017  |

The wrap is excellent in terms of its quality and containment. It fits my baby beautifully and she looks comfy. Just wish that the wrap had laundry tabs. The velcros are sewn very close to the white mesh trim and the hooks catch the trim easily when I change the baby. Sometimes the hooks catch the nappy when baby wriggles.

Covers the bamboozle nappy that I use along with an additional booster. Better protection than the peanut wrap and easy to fit. Tabs are too wide though which impacts on the fit and have to be fastened for washing as no laundry tabs

Good wrap, annoying Velcro!
Saturday, 25 February 2017  |

I can't fault these wraps in terms of their containment - they are excellent. However the Velcro is rather irritating! The rough side faces inwards and when baby is getting towards the larger end of the size range, it's difficult to ensure that no rough bits are rubbing against baby's delicate skin. This isn't helped by the fact that the trim tends to get stuck in the Velcro too causing it to curl inwards.
However, they do work well at containing leaks. They dry super fast which means you don't need loads of them.

Brilliant!
Friday, 6 January 2017  |

Eight years ago i bought some of these from the nappy lady for my oldest boy and i found them brilliant. Three children later i needed to get some new ones as the old wraps are looking a bit worse for wear. I have also in that time used the motherease airflow but found they were too tight around my lb thighs who is quite chunky. All in all I love these, I use them with my bumbles btp nappies and I rarely have leaks, I think someone else on here described them as 'bombproof' which I have found to be true. Wouldn't ever buy any other wraps to go with my nappies. They dry quickly, wash well and the velcro stays strong enough to get a good fit wash after wash. Brilliant from Motherease.

Velcro rikki wrap- great product
Wednesday, 12 October 2016  |

Exactly as described. Perfect over my prefolds and onelife nappies. Quick air drying which means I don't need so many as compared to other Wraps I own or have tried in the past. Velcro makes for quick and easy removal but the only minor down side is having to remember to do the Velcro up before washing so it dosnt get stuck to everything else in the load.
Overall excellent product and good value for money.
The nappy lady also provide excellent customer service and product arrived on time.

These have worked well so far, with only minor leaks that we're pretty confident were from user error.

The only gripe I have with these wraps is that the velcro keeps getting stuck on the trim material. This is making the trim look ratty even though these have been in use for less than a month.

Reliable and attractive wrap
Tuesday, 27 September 2016  |

I've been very happy using these wraps over cotton pre folds (and a nappy nippa). They are easy to put on and take off and look like they will be able to grow with my baby (currently three months old). We have had the occasional leakage when there is a particularly explosive poo, but that's bound to happen.

We use this over a bamboozle stretch at night time and get up to 11 hours outo of it.
It is quite bulky so not sure I would use it during the day but perfect for over night as good fit round legs and waist but plenty of room for a big nappy and boosting.

Friday, 9 September 2016  |

Bought as size small no longer fitted. Easy to use. Great containment. Combined with bamboozle stretch, this is the only nappy (real or disposable) combination which has never leaked for me. Holds babies legs in a healthy position. Nice soft flexible waterproof layer. I just wish the velcro strip was as flexible, worry about it digging into belly when baby seated, especially with under nappy having a thick strip of Velcro too. Haven't had any obvious problems yet thoigh.

Ok, but prefer the Airflow
Tuesday, 31 May 2016  |

There aren't wash tabs for the velcro, so if these get poopy and need a wash, you have to sort of reassemble them before putting them into the nappy pail. Have had two poo escapes from the leg and I think it's because my baby's thighs and waist aren't proportionate at the moment so I can't get the leg openings snug enough. Both leaks happened when she was in her carrier, could be positional too. Haven't had this problem with the Airflow wraps. Also find the velcro a bit tricky to get flat when closed.

Solid design
Tuesday, 31 May 2016  |

This wrap contains moisture and poo really well. On the odd occasion when my nappies have leaked, the wrap washes very well. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because the Velcro often sticks to other items if washed so it's best to close it when washing which I forget to do when concentrating on poo!

Too big for a 7lb baby
Friday, 22 January 2016  |

These work well with the totbots bamboozle stretch nappies - we've had no leaks at all. However, they come up too high on our little boy's body. The wide Velcro fatening means that the wraps are quite restrictive to his movement - especially when trying to burp him in a sitting position - a bit like a corset!
Once he's bigger this won't be a problem and so our rating would be higher for a bigger baby.

This wrap is big. I originally thought it would be too big to use with my 14 week old son, but when I tried it, it was ok. However, it wasn't able to contain a big breastmilk poo.
It would be improved by overlapping velcro on the waist.

Motherease wraps
I use these with my tots bots night nappies.mi have the Velcro and the button wrap. These have been brilliant and have saved me from wet explosions and cloth changes at night. I much prefer the button one as I feel it's not too tight in the legs and can loosen it. To be honest though the Velcro is easier but it sticks to everything in the wash so make sure you do up the Velcro

Ok but prefer airflow
Saturday, 1 November 2014  |

Positive points:
No leakage, unless the size is nearly too small
Good fit for smaller legs as the openings can be adjusted to fit a baby with tiny thighs
Dry very quickly

Negative points:
Velcro does tend to stick to the lining around the edges, if that makes sense, which over time wears down the lining
No laundry tabs so you have to remember to stick the Velcro as if you were doing up a nappy, and sometimes comes undone in the wash anyway
Mine only lasted until my daughter was 6 months (medium size)--maybe because I boost with terry boosters and she's slightly big (70th percentile for weight)
Not great for chunky thighs as it always seed to big in the waist if it fit in the legs
I don't love the patterns (not a deal breaker, but still...)
Not breathable like the airflow
If your little one has a pudgy tummy, the Velcro can go into a tummy fold when sitting up. which looks like it could be uncomfortable (although to be fair, my daughter never had a rash or any signs of skin irritation from this)
While not a bad cover, I'm not sure why you would buy it when you can buy the airflow.
