Cotton Terry Squares Product Overview

White Bots Terry Nappies make an excellent value and versatile cloth nappy system. Terry nappies have been used for generations. These WhiteBots Terry Squares are more absorbent and superior quality to the thin cotton terry squares you will find on the high street.

Whitebots terry nappies are lovely and fluffy, super thirsty and a beautiful bright white. If you prefer colours Bright Bots pack of colours are also available but are more expensive.

White Bots Terry Nappies are suitable for day or night time, at night you will just need to add additional booster(s).

With the cost of living crisis terry nappies will give you an incredibly hardworking and economical set of reusable nappies. Some families still prefer to have the "ease" of a fitted or all in one nappy for going out and about, in these cases a split of half terry squares and half another type of cloth nappy is very popular.

Are Terry Nappies Hard To Use?

Many people initially get nervous when I talk about Terry Squares or recommend them.  There really is no need as they are incredibly simple to use, my children as toddlers used to help me fold terry nappies for their younger siblings or for demos. If a 3 year old can fold and fasten a Terry Square so can you!

Read our simple guide on how to use terry nappies.

Sizing

The WhiteBots Terry Squares come in two sizes:

  • 60cm - This is the main size that most people will use. It fits birth to potty for the vast majority of children 7-35lbs.
  • 70cm - Large toddler to adult size. For Adults it should be pad folded.

Sold singly or in a pack.

How do I use it?

A Terry nappy is incredibly versatile. Using simple folds you can make the nappy fit exactly as your babies shape requires.  Don't worry no scary nappy pins to use as the modern Nappi Nippa safely, quickly and securely holds the nappy in place.

Visit our terry square folding advice guides for diagrams on the different folds available.

The Motherease Air Flow wrap is the best choice over terries, but if you are planning to pad fold your terries either occasionally or full time, you will need a gussetted velcro wrap like the Catcher wrap or the Bambinex wrap.

When you no longer need your Terries for nappies they will give you years of use as cleaning cloths!  Some of my Terry Squares are approaching 18 years old and still going strong having been through 3 babies and now many years of cleaning.

Care Instructions

Washing terry square nappies is very simple, they are pretty much indestructible.

Before first use put in a warm gentle machine wash cycle to bring them up to full absorbency.

Terry nappies can be washed up to 90deg but 60 deg really is the normal maximum you need and often 40deg is perfectly sufficient.

Terry nappies are best air dried from a cost and environmental view point. However a warm tumble dry fantastic for fluffing them to make the cotton soft terry towelling like new.

Inserts: Bright Bots cover all manufacturing defects on both viscose from bamboo and microterry inserts for 30 days with proof of purchase. This includes pre-existing rips to the fabric or sewing-related issues.

Normal Wear and Tear/Non-manufacturing related damages: All products have a limited lifespan despite care taken to preserve them. These products are used to contain such acidic substances as urine and faeces, and are washed regularly. As such, they will all eventually show wear and tear. There is no set amount of time that a nappy product can be expected to last. Bright Bots do not warranty against degradation from prolonged storage or wear from use including but not limited to holes, runs under snaps, snags on sidewalks or from pools, wood, cement, or washer/dryer problems. Have been using terry towels for 4 years but had started to perish. E-mailed nappy lady and she gave such helpful advice, turned out we’d probably been washing on too short a cycle. So knowledgable and helpful - have bought another set of cotton towels which seem even softer than before.

Having told myself at the start of cloth nappying I wouldn’t bother folding terries I am now a convert! Love them - quick drying and folded right are usually bomb proof. With a good wrap there’s no risk of 💩 escape!
However I do need to boost in my toddler as these aren’t absorbent enough, not a huge problem but that’s why I’ve only given 4 stars.

Perfect for night time

I have a petite girl so I only use these for night time as they’re super bulky on her but they’re perfect as a night time nappy. Before we used these she was leaking through 2-3 disposables (she feeds basically constantly during the night time) and since using these we’ve not had a single leak since

Worked well on my 3.5yr old
Rating:
24 December 2021  |

My 3.5yr old is toilet trained during the day but still wears a nappy at night. I'd been using disposables at night with her, but I wanted to reduce our waste. So I bought this plus some motherease air wraps.
I was really worried that they a) wouldn't work and she would wake up wet, or b) she wouldn't like it - she has lots of opinions on what she wears, and isn't shy about expressing them
But it was all fine! She loves the nappies - we did have a discussion about the rubbish tip in the run-up to trying them. She wakes up in the morning with nappies full of wee and no leaks anywhere, and she sleeps just as well. The kite fold took five minutes for my husband and me to learn off the youtube video.
I'm just kicking myself for not doing it sooner. I could've saved a lot of nappies from landfill.
I did actually use all in one Little Lamb nappies when kids were babies, but I found them useless at night, and at one point with a 2yr old and a baby and struggling for any sleep or to keep on top of laundry with no drier and it was probably winter, I gave up.
I wish I'd known about the terry towel nappies back then.

Very useful!
Rating:
23 July 2021  |

I decided to get some terries to bolster our nappy selection, as a high absorbency but quick drying option. We have a heavy wetter, so lots of the more absorbent nappies are ideal, but also take longer to dry, and without a tumble drier, sometimes there aren't enough dry clean ones ready to use!
I also like the flexibility to fold them in different ways, and imagine that with any future children we may choose different ways to fold them depending on what works for them.
I'm sure we'll end up keeping at least some after we're done with the nappy years for all those random cleaning jobs!

Perfect nappy

Got these in 70cm for my toddler and wish we had used terries from the beginning! We use with little lamb boosters, nippas, fleece liners and pull-up wraps. Origami fold with the sides folded in to avoid thigh chafing as they’re a bit wide. They have solved all the problems we were having with prefolds and bamboozles. They dry so much faster than even prefolds so we only need 12 for full time use washing every two days with no tumble drier in winter. Containment is amazing so we use far fewer wraps. Can use with pull up wraps so they go on fast with no fiddling and stay on. The only nappy my toddler doesn’t take off! More absorbent than our size 2 bamboozles. We use them day (with 1 ll booster) and night (with 3 ll boosters). The bulk isn’t that bad and is actually very useful for learning to walk!! And no more issues trying to bulk up the washing machine every nappy wash! They’re literally just towels so can be used for baths and everything and will still be useful after potty training.

Purchased these to try as I wanted something quick drying with Winter coming up instead of all waiting for all my bamboo pocket nappies to dry - does the job. Have stayed lovely and sift so far, despite living in a hard water area and air drying. Dry really quickly. I have always heard that terries are still the best nappy option for so many circumstances and I’m inclined to now agree! I’ve used the gaynor fold on my 9 month old and a terry lasts at least 3 hours without any further boosting. Much cheaper option than MCN too. These are now my ‘go-to’ when at home, although prefer pockets or AIOs when out and about.

Haven't used these as actual nappies yet, as newborn hasn't grown to fit the covers we bought. But these had been so handy to have at hand. We've used them to cover cold changing pads, to keep baby warm after a wash etc. And they launder and tumble dry very easily.

Good terry
Rating:
26 July 2020  |

A good terry overall. If you’re new to terries you’d be shocked at how bulky this thing is. It absorbs really well and I haven’t noticed to last less time on baby than other bamboo shaped or flat nappies. It dries extremely fast. It gets a bit hard with the time (with no tumble dryer) and I’m not sure how long its lifespan would be - probably shorter than other nappies but it is a good solution. Terry nappies do not leave marks on baby’s legs from the terry, only occasionally from the wrap. I would recommend.

Wish I’d done terry’s from the beginning!
Rating:
12 March 2020  |

The reason I have given these a 3 star rating is that the squares are not squares! They may have been before being washed but after pre-washing and line drying they definitely aren’t. I find it really annoying when folding the terry’s. Aside from that I do wish I had used terry’s from the get go instead of wasting so much money on btp aio that do not work for my lo. He tends to flood his nappies which only the terry squares have been able to handle so far. (I do have some other variations of the terry nappy which I am also very happy with)

Terries are the best nappies!
Rating:
28 January 2020  |

I LOVE these. I bought them as a back up in case we ever ran out of nappies, and because liked the idea of trying them out every so often. However, once I put one terry on my LO I now reach for them preferentially over my bamboozles! These terries are really soft, a good size, extremely quick to dry, and they leave no sock marks (because no elastic). They are also so absorbent and the fact you can fold in different ways means they always fit my LO. They are also really good value - you can't always buy 12 nappies for the price of one - so I would really recommend them to anyone.

12 July 2019  |

Purchased these to bulk out my stash as I prefer natural materials next to my baby's skin, but my other nappies tend to be slow drying. Initially I was worried about containment and how to fold them, but I followed the nappy lady videos and jelly roll the legs and get really good results using the kite and origami folds.

They are bulkier than any other nappy I own, but they are also much cheaper and faster to dry than the others too.

Absorbent and quick drying
Rating:
06 December 2018  |

I bought these as a cheap option to 'tide me over' while I figured out what nappies would suit me and my little man best, but they've actually become my nappy of choice! The different folds take some practice but make these nappies amazingly versatile. You can get the absorbency (and lots of it) exactly where you need it, and they also dry really fast.
A couple of things to watch for:
- The white took on a yellow tint from the first wash, thanks to breastfeeding poo, but hanging in the sun gets them white again.
- Velcro wrap fastenings caught the threads on the nappy really easily at first, but that happens less the more the nappies are washed, and wouldn't be an issue at all with popper-fastened wraps.

Skeptical at first
Rating:
31 October 2018  |

I was skeptical at first, and even when they arrived I was a bit like "oh no, have I just wasted money on something that I can't and will never use?" But they are really great, they last and last, which I was surprised about. We got stuck in traffic on the way to the in laws and I obviously couldn't do a nappy change for longer than I would have wanted to. Carefully picked my daughter out of the car seat expecting her to be soggy but not even a drop! The nappy had absorbed every last bit. Bulky, but you get used to that, and actually makes her look cute!

03 August 2018  |

I really like these nappies. I've used them from a couple of weeks old ~8lbs. They are bulky at first but my daughter didn't seem bothered by this.
The challenge with them is finding the right fold for your baby's size, and this does change. I've used the Jo fold, the Neat fold and the Gaynor fold, and they've all been great and we haven't had any leaks that escaped the wrap (rikki). The downside to these nappies is that it's harder to have other people change nappies because it takes a while to learn.
We have to dry indoors and these dry overnight on a warm day, or at worst within 24hrs in the winter.

Great quality cotton terry squares. They wash well and keep their shape better than muslins. Absorbancy is good with the right fold but the real advantage is the drying time. I bought them to back up my nappy supply when the weather is bad as our only drying option is outside line drying. They dry in 30 minutes outside or a couple of hours inside.

Really like these, lovely and soft and absorbent and much easier to use than I'd expected. These with an airflow wrap are my go to. I also like to use one with a wool wrap for overnight. Totally adjustable, I liked learning all the different folds. Only issue with flats compared to fitteds I have found is the lack of leg elastic means runny poo usually gets onto the wrap, although so far never beyond that! They are just SO easy to clean and quick to dry though!

The item is described as suitable from newborn - well it isn't. By the time you fold thus nappy, is so bulky that isimpossible to lay your baby flat, their bottom is much higher than should be. Also it is so bulky that no newborn clothes fit on it. I am looking forward to the time when baby grows so we can use these as so far this purchase was a waste of money, really disappointed.

Response:

So sorry you've not liked the fit of terry squares. Terry Squares have been used for generations of babies and these are no different. They are the same great material our mothers used (Harrington Gold for any Grannys reading this) and the same birth to potty size 60x60cm. Cloth nappies are bulkier than disposables but remember the bulk is actually better for babies hips and all the rubbish disposables have fed us about needing to be slim for activity is actually worse for babies hip development. Have a read of our article on hip positioning. If you have a very small baby then any birth to potty will be disproportionally large follow our advice and use folded muslins until baby is closer to 10lbs. We have lots of articles and videos on folded muslins. Your terry squares will fit up to 35lbs so you'll get plenty of wear out of them so not wasted money. If you need more help or reassurance on the fit and folding of your nappies please email us and we'll be happy to check your folds from photos.

I ordered a lot of nappies, liners, breast pads, plastic pants etc for my daughter's first baby, due very soon. Being of an older generation, I found the Nappy lady website very helpful in guiding me through the vast range of products available these days! The nappies I ordered seemed a little thinner than mine of 30 years ago, but still substantial and also beautifully soft even after washing without fabric conditioner.

Terry Squares 70cm
Rating:
25 April 2017  |

I find these to be very good quality nappies as an adult bedwetter who is fed up with disposables due to their lack of security and comfort at night. Folding a 70 cm square into a 3 layer rectangle is ideal size to act as a booster to the adult Bambinex wrap, or for a more traditional approach use two nappies folded to give a 6 layer soaker pad inside a pinned on shaped thinnish nappy that I had from another supplier, all covered by adult sized plastic pants. The advantage of this as an adult is that you can boot absorbancy bit still have "easy to launder and dry" single layer nappies which in my opinion are more comfortable and reliable than the disposables on the market. Yes they are bulkier and it may seem a "babyish" solution but they are effective at the task of keeping the bed dry.

Good quality and great service and advice when I ordered and discussed my needs with Wendy. She was empathetic to the fact that it isn't just little ones that need the protection of nappies.
